Even though it’s true that extreme right white supremacist organisations started openly criticising the government in the 1990s, nobody could have ever predicted that it would culminate in a horrific act of domestic terrorism. But sadly, that is exactly what the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, on April 19, 1995, as meticulously examined in Showtime’s “Waco: The Aftermath.” For the time being, though, if you’d just like to know more about Andy the German—real name Andreas Carl Strassmeir, accused mastermind of the entire attack—we have the information available for you.
Who is Andy the German?
Official documents reveal that West German native Andy was born on May 17, 1959, into a household with right-wing nationalist sympathies, indicating that he was exposed to extreme ideologies as a child. His father was the chief of staff to Chancellor Helmut Kohl, and his grandpa was purportedly a co-founder of the Nazi Party, therefore his fundamental view of patriotism was much different. This explains in part why, after earning his degree from a military college in Hamburg, he enlisted in the German Army at the age of 20 and served there for a total of five years until being dismissed as an officer.
The decision to move to Washington, DC was made by Andreas, also known as Andy, Andy the Kraut, Mr. Red, and Andrew Strassmire, with the intention of pursuing a career in the Department of Justice. It turns out that with the help of a former US Air Force colonel who had come to know his father while he was stationed in Berlin, he actually did manage to obtain a position in the federal government. By 1986, however, the German had already relocated to Texas and was employed as a computer salesman for a nearby business, in addition to socialising as much as possible.
