Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe starts with “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantum Mania.” This movie is full of crazy ideas. In the movie, Kang the Conquerer (Jonathan Majors) is Ant-Man’s (Paul Rudd) toughest enemy so far. The character is a lot like the bad guy He Who Remains from the Season 1 finale of “Loki,” and fans are starting to figure out how the two might be related.
Kang and He Who Remains both send the Avengers ominous messages and promise to be different from anything they’ve ever fought. They say there will be chaos all over the multiverse, which will probably come to a head in the much-anticipated “Secret Wars.” After “Quantumania’s” cliffhanger ending, it’s safe to say we haven’t seen the last of Kang and his uncontrollable anger. The post-credits and after-credits scenes showed even more surprising things about the character and his horrifyingly large number of different versions, who are definitely a threat.
In “Quantumania,” we learned a lot about the Conquerer that we didn’t know before. However, some things are still unknown, leaving fans to guess. On Reddit, they put their heads together to theorize how exactly Kang and He Who Remains are intertwined, and what that means for The Avengers and the fate of the multiverse.
Fans believe both are outcasts of the Council of Kangs
In the last episode of Season 1 of “Loki,” we meet He Who Remains, who is a strange version of Kang. He tells our heroes about the legendary Multiverse War, when Kangs fought each other until He Who Remains fixed the balance of time. But after the most recent “Ant-Man” movie, fans are starting to doubt his story.
Some fans on Reddit, like u/ed190, think that Kang and He Who Remains are the same thing “In Loki’s final scene, you can see four statues in He Who Remains’ castle, but one of them has been broken down. In the movie’s end credits, you can see the three main Kangs. The fourth Kang, who is the main character of the movie, is the one who was sent away to the quantum realm.” They also added a quote from He Who Remains (“reincarnation baby”), which added to the idea that they are the same person. This idea is shared by u/romanholidays, who thinks that the only thing that separates them is time.
But some fans have different ideas. For example, u/Chemistryset8 thinks Kang was never on the Council and has been fighting them for a long time. They also said, “And now that it’s out, my theory is that he’s not dead. He’ll absorb or control the multiverse engine and use its reality-bending powers to come back as the Beyonder.” Could he then turn into the dangerous thing he told Ant-Man about?
Fans all agree on one thing, as pointed out by u/cap4life52, who agrees with u/Chemistryset8. “I think your theory is right on the money, and that “deceased” Kang was definitely telling the truth. Him and He Who Remains seemed to be keeping something worse from happening.” Maybe “something worse” is the Council of Kangs, who by kicking him out made him The Avengers’ next dangerous enemy.
