  • DCS

Due to the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes, production on the planned drama series “The Last Frontier” on Apple TV+ has been postponed. The show was set to start filming in Montréal, Québec, in October 2023, and it was supposed to wrap up in May 2024. The main character of the show is “U.S. Marshal Frank Remnick, the lone Marshal in command of the calm, rocky barrens of Alaska, whose jurisdiction is turned upside-down when a prison transport plane crashes in the distant wilderness, freeing hundreds of vicious inmates. Assigned to guarding the community he has sworn to keep secure, he starts to believe the crash wasn’t an accident but rather the start of a carefully thought-out plot with political ramifications.

Only once the two ongoing strikes are over may the series’ delayed Montreal filming get underway. Along with Vancouver and Toronto, the city is one of the nation’s main centres for the creation of entertainment. ‘Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan,’ starring John Krasinski ‘Beau Is Afraid,’ starring Joaquin Phoenix; ‘Arrival,’ starring Amy Adams; Some of the well-known projects shot in the city include Darren Aronofsky’s “Mother!” and the thriller series “The Recruit” on Netflix.

In February 2023, Apple TV+ ordered “The Last Frontier,” with Jon Bokenkamp and Richard D’Ovidio serving as creators and executive producers. NBC’s criminal drama “The Blacklist” and the films “Taking Lives,” “Perfect Strangers,” with Halle Berry and Bruce Willis, as well as “The Call,” were all written by Bokenkamp. On the other hand, D’Ovidio is credited with authoring or co-writing “Hypnotic,” “The Forger,” “The Call,” etc.

Jason Clarke portrays U.S. Marshal Frank Remnick in the movie “The Last Frontier.” The 54-year-old actor is well known for his roles as Lewis Morgan in “The Aftermath,” George Wilson in “The Great Gatsby,” Emil Stenz in “White House Down,” Daniel Stanton in “Zero Dark Thirty,” Malcolm in “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes,” and Malcolm in “White House Down.” He received praise for his performance in Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” as Judge Roger Robb. The show’s remaining cast has not yet been revealed.

Sam Hargrave, the director of “Extraction,” is directing the pilot episode. In a May 2023 interview with Collider, the filmmaker acknowledged his involvement in the project. “Yes, at the end of the year, up in Canada, I’ll be doing a TV show for Apple called The Last Frontier. I’m going to direct the pilot, the second and third episodes, and then executive produce the entire series. Jon Bokenkamp authored it and is currently show-running it. Simply said, it has a really terrific story and script, he said.

“The lead actor is Jason Clarke. The narrative is entertaining and quite compelling. I believe it will be a fun challenge because I haven’t really worked in the TV industry, and I love the idea of long-form storytelling and creating this world so that others can enter and riff on it and hopefully improve it so that the series continues indefinitely, said Hargrave. Before making movies, Hargrave coordinated stunts for a variety of movies, including as “Avengers: Endgame” and “Atomic Blonde.”

The SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes, on the other hand, have not just affected the television series “The Last Frontier.” The strike has also put a stop to the production of several other shows, including seasons 6 of “Virgin River,” “The White Lotus,” and “The Night Agent,” as well as films like “Karate Kid” by Jackie Chan and “Average Height, Average Build” by Adam McKay.
