Aquaman 2 Release Date – When Is It Coming In Theatres?

The DC sequel Aquaman 2, also known as Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, was supposed to arrive soon, but release date issues have pushed it back to Christmas 2023.

After the first film’s unprecedented success, the sequel and a spin-off, which has since been cancelled, were both announced. But Aquaman is undoubtedly coming back, and he’ll be joined by another significant DC hero.

The sequel, like the original, is helmed by James Wan, and it was co-written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick. Produced by Wan and Peter Safran, who is now serving as co-president of DC Studios.

There is certainly lot of information to keep us occupied while we wait, so here is everything you need to know about Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

Aquaman 2 release date: When is Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom out in cinemas?

In conclusion, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will be shown in theatres on December 25 in the US and December 29 in the UK.

Its release date was initially slated for December 16, 2022, but was later moved to March 17, 2023 to give time for VFX to be completed. In order to spread out the cost of 2023’s promotion, Warner Bros. Discovery then moved it back to its original date.

The sequel was shot from June 2021 to January 2022, and some reshoots took place in July 2022. Hopefully, this signifies that the deadline of December 2023 will be met.

Aquaman 2 cast: Who will be back in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom?

Of course, Jason Momoa will return as Arthur Curry, aka Aquaman, and Amber Heard will play Mera alongside him.

In addition to confirming his return as Orm, Patrick Wilson teased, “I can tell you that even [Wan’s] designs for Aquaman 2 are pushing it even further.” Patrick Wilson has been “somewhat informed” on what’s ahead for the deposed King of Atlantis.

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II has also indicated he will be returning, which follows the setup for Black Manta to serve as the major antagonist of the sequel. He teased, “Black Manta will return, hopefully causing a lot more problems than he did in the first one.

While newcomers Indya Moore as DC villain Karshon and Pilou Asbaek in a mystery role, other returning cast members include Willem Dafoe as Nuidius Vulko, Temuera Morrison as Tom Curry, Nicole Kidman as Atlanna, and Dolph Lundgren as King Nereus.

The fact that Ben Affleck will reprise his role as Batman in the sequel is arguably the most thrilling development for DC fans. Additionally, after making a comeback in The Flash, Michael Keaton reportedly plans to reprise his role as Batman.

Who knows? Julie Andrews could make a comeback as Karathen as well.

Aquaman 2 plot: What’s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom about?

Although the plot of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is still unknown to us, we do have an official (short) synopsis:

In order to save Atlantis and the rest of the world from irreparable destruction, Aquaman must form an uneasy alliance with an unusual partner, according to the synopsis.

It’s unknown who the “unlikely ally” is, but it might be Orm, who Aquaman vanquished at the end of the first film and replaced as the legitimate king of Atlantis.

Therefore, it is likely that the sequel will begin during the early stages of the new King Aquaman’s rule, when he is likely to be dealing with his first threat as the ruler of Atlantis. Whatever happens, Momoa claimed that everything was “planned out” back in October 2019.

Other than that, we don’t really know what to anticipate from the sequel, but the author has hinted at the locations of certain teasers.

Johnson-McGoldrick responded to a supporter on Twitter by saying, “We’re not adapting any one specific comic book tale, but if you want to know the tone we’re looking for, pick up pretty much any Silver Age story with Black Manta.”

Wilson convinced Wan to confirm that the sequel will go to “other worlds” while he was speaking at DC FanDome in August 2020, giving a hint as to how it will vary from the first film.

“The second one is a little bit more sombre and applicable to the reality we live in today. It wants to go in that direction, “Wan clarified.

Aquaman 2 trailer: Any Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom footage yet?

For a trailer, we’ll have to wait almost as long as Arthur did to see his mother Atlanna again. Expect nothing significant until around the middle of 2023.

However, this teaser for DC’s 2022 lineup has a very tiny excerpt from the sequel (when Aquaman 2 was set for release in 2022).
