Bosson Started Her Acting Career in 1968
Bosson, who was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on November 1, 1939, always wanted to be an actress. She moved to New York City after graduating from high school to begin her acting career. Before enrolling in acting studies in 1965, she worked as a Bunny at the Playboy Club.
A few years later, she was cast in the 1968 crime drama Bullitt, starring Steve McQueen, and received her first prominent acting job. The Love God?, Mame, Capricorn One, Operation Room, Calendar Girl Murders, and The Last Starfighter followed, as did Mannix, Alias Smith and Jones, McMillan & Wife, Sunshine, and Longstreet on television.
Breakthrough with Hill Street Blues
After appearing in the NBC drama Hill Street Blues in the 1980s, Bosson received widespread praise and notoriety. She got five Emmy nods for her work as Fay Furillo, the ex-wife of police captain Frank Furillo (Daniel J. Travanti), throughout the show’s first five seasons. Steven Bochco, her former husband, was the show’s creator.
Steven and Barbara both made the decision to depart the show in the sixth season. Before divorcing in 1997, they nevertheless continued to work together on additional projects, such as Richie Brockelman, Private Eye, Hooperman, and Police Rock.
The actress played Miriam Grasso in the legal drama Murder One on ABC from 1995 to 1997.
