No one has ever said, “Humans are better than dogs.” Unconditional love can only be understood by those who have experienced the affection and loyalty of a dog. Every now and then, a dog movie is released; it may be action-packed or a family drama, but all of these films demonstrate how magnificent dogs can be and why they are renowned as “a man’s best friend.” If you have a dog, you know how nice it is to snuggle with your furry little best buddy, but what’s even better is snuggling with that furry pet while watching a movie about other cozy warm creatures that remind you how fortunate you are to have such a blessing in your life.
I swear the world would be a much better place if we could take our dogs wherever we wanted without any restrictions, but alas, we’re still not there. As a result, we are unable to take our dogs to the movies (picture your dog sitting in a movie theater wearing 3D spectacles!). However, if we are unable to take our dogs to the cinema, we can bring the movies to them. Because we now have Netflix, this is suddenly a possibility. So, here’s a list of Netflix’s best dog movies that are now accessible to watch.
101 Dalmations (1996)
After a strange twist of fate, a struggling game author named Roger meets Anita, a lovely fashion designer, in a dog park. Soon after, the two fall in love and marry, and Perdita, Anita’s dog, becomes pregnant with Roger’s dog, both of which are dalmatians. Everything appears to be in order until Anita’s nasty and glamorous boss abducts all of the puppies in order to make a coat out of their immaculate fur. But the puppies quickly figure out Cruella’s plans, and they devise their own plot against Cruella. The majority of live-action adaptations of original animation characters fail miserably, but this one is an exception. It’s not just as good as the animation, but it’ll make you believe that this live-action film is far superior than the original.
A Dog Walker’s Christmas Tale (2015)
The plot of this film follows the lives of a 21-year-old girl who relocates to a new city and is compelled to work as a dog walker for a wealthy developer. She discovers a spa and salon being erected on the site of a neighborhood dog park while walking the dog one day. She is initially ecstatic about it, but as she gets friends with another man who is also a dog walker and resents others who want to demolish the dog park for a salon, she begins to doubt her own inhibitions. The girl has put her ego aside and banded together with her newfound allies to fight back against those attempting to demolish the park and save it before Christmas.
Dogs can be true heroes at times, and can go to great lengths to rescue the lives of those they genuinely care about. When a half-husky half-wolf breed dog named Balto puts his life in peril to prevent an epidemic from invading the city of Nome in Alaska, he does so not just for his masters, but for his entire village. The film does an excellent job of depicting the actual character of a devoted dog and is undoubtedly an underappreciated classic. If you’re seeking for an animated film in this genre, this is a must-see.
Benji (1974)
The first film in the ‘Benji’ series is really fantastic. The film’s premise is straightforward, and it relates the story of how a dog named Benji, who enjoys his freedom without an owner, befriends everyone in town. When two of Benji’s pals are abducted, Benji decides to take the matter into his own hands and unravel the kidnapper’s actions in order to locate the youngsters and prove that, even without a master, he is the most faithful dog. When Benji’s sorrowful eyes are zoomed in on, dog lovers will most likely cry. If you’re looking for a movie to see with your kids this weekend, look no further because Benji is the type of character that both you and your kids will adore.
Benji (2018)
You’re probably thinking if this is a list of dog movies or just Benji movies at this point. Sorry, but we just can’t get enough of this adorable little mystery-solving dog, and Hollywood evidently can’t either, because they keep making remakes of it after all these years. This film’s plot is extremely similar to the first one, which was released in the early 1970s. Benji befriends two little children and subsequently goes out to rescue them when they are kidnapped. Although this is a remake of a classic, it manages to move you just as much as the original and will undoubtedly leave you in tears.
Benji Off The Leash (2004)
‘Benji Off The Leash’ is an inspiring story of a little dog that is rescued from his cruel stepfather by a small child. Under the love and compassion of the little boy who saves him, the toddler grows up to become Benji, a hybrid hero. Benji, on the other hand, has a mission: to save his mother from overbreeding and death. Benji forms an alliance with Lizard Tongue, a stray dog, and the two work together to save Benji’s mother from an abusive guy who is attempting to murder her. They avoid every obstacle along the road, including two animal control officials, in order to save lives and change lives since Benji is no longer on a leash.
Beverly Hill Chihuahua (2008)
This is one of those Disney films in which the dogs can genuinely communicate. By chat, I mean actually speaking in English, which can be a little strange at times but also eliminates the presence of human characters from the film, so it all works out, doesn’t it? During a vacation with her owner in Mexico City, a talking wealthy and pampered Chihuahua gets lost. The film follows the journey of a dog that is trying to find her way home and meets other dogs along the road who will most likely become lifelong pals. If you’re alright with dogs having real talks with people, then you’ll enjoy this hilarious film about a lost dog’s trip home.
Beverly Hill Chihuahua 3: Viva La Fiesta! (2012)
This one is about talking dogs once again, although this time it becomes a little sillier than the previous. These films were most likely intended for children because the dogs in this one can not only talk but also perform other human activities, which would be hilarious for small children who enjoy watching dog movies for the sheer joy of it. Although it isn’t one of the top films on the list, it is the type of film that will keep your children engaged and entertained.
For the Love of Benji (1977)
The ‘Benji’ movies were a smash hit in the 1970s, and it’s easy to see why once you see them. ‘Benji’ is what you would call a “Adorbs Pupper” because he is so charming and adorable. Your heart will melt just looking to the little dog going about and obeying whatever he’s instructed. Benji sniffs out a false CIA agent in this cute little installment of the ‘Benji’ movies and ultimately wins everyone’s heart. One of the best dog movies you can watch with your family is this one.
Hotel for Dogs (2009)
‘Hotel for Canines’ is about a hotel that caters only to dogs, but it’s not all as it seems. It all begins when two brothers, Andy and Bruce, fall in love with a stray dog they’ve called Friday. However, they are unable to take Friday home due to their foster home’s strict no-pet policy. As a result, they decide to put him up in an abandoned hotel nearby, where Bruce re-engineers everything to turn it into a full-fledged dog hotel. Not only Friday, but a slew of additional dogs soon make the hotel their home. However, the incessant barking and other noises from the location begin to create suspicion among the neighborhood. Bruce and Andi must work together to solve the situation while keeping their secret hidden from the parents and the local pound.
Pet Fooled (2016)
‘Pet Fooled’ differs from the other films on this list in a few ways. This is a significant eye-opening documentary exposing the tainted pet food industry, not a sensitive dramatic story. We’re finally seeing how commercialization has harmed human lives, but do we ever consider how falsely touted “healthy” pet food products may be impacting our pets’ lives? Until now, that is. Because of all the truths it reveals, this film will irritate you at times, but it will undoubtedly open your eyes to the dark side of the commercial pet industry. This will also assist you in determining which foods are suitable for your pets and which foods should be avoided entirely. Shiny, alluring labels, which are frequently misleading, conceal a number of fundamental problems in their products. That is the essence of commercialization.
Super Buddies (2013)
It all started with the movie ‘Air Bud,’ which inspired us all as children. After seeing a tale about how a dog offers happiness to others around him, I remember pressuring my parents to purchase a golden retriever. ‘Super Buddies’ is yet another installment in the Air Bud franchise. This one depicts the fascinating story of five dogs that each have their own special abilities. They defend the Earth by stopping a power-hungry extraterrestrial creature using their superpowers. With time, the ‘Air Bud’ series lost its allure. However, for kids who have been following the series from the beginning, this is still a fun film.
The Champions (2015)
The film recounts how former star quarterback Michael Vick was known to be a part of an illegal dog fighting enterprise that was being operated, where dogs were not only beaten up and tortured if they didn’t fight in their rings, but they were also beaten up and tortured if they didn’t fight. The film begins by demonstrating how cruel individuals can be and still get away with it because Vick was only imprisoned for 23 months for this act and went on to live a regular life as a football player. However, 50 pit bulls were left behind as a result of this shambles, and PETA labeled them as “ticking time bombs” since they were so agitated by the events. However, because these canines deserved it, they were given a second chance at life. The film follows their journey from the time they are taken in until they begin to become best friends, as well as how they inspire the lives of everyone around them.
Turner and Hooch (1989)
The film, starring Tom Hanks, follows Detective Scott Turner, who has a routine and ordered life until one day he is tasked with solving a murder case in which the only witness is a vicious dog named Hooch. Turner’s life is thrown entirely out of whack as he assumes the dog’s tasks and, over time, establishes a bond with him. What more could you want for when you have Tom Hanks and a dog in the same movie?
White Fang (2018)
‘White Fang’ is a film adaptation of Jack London’s classic novel of the same name. It follows the exploits of a wolf-dog as he lives with three different masters. The narrative of White Fang has touched many hearts throughout the years, and it will continue to do so in the future. The visuals in this film rendition of the novel are excellent, connecting you to the main character and the gorgeous soundtrack. ‘White Fang’ is a film for adults as well as children, and it will have you on the point of tears at the end.
