If you enjoy romantic anime, you may find ‘Asagao to Kase-san’ to be rather enjoyable to watch, regardless of whether you enjoy the shoujo-ai genre. ‘Asagao to Kase-san’ is an Original Video Animation that follows Yui Yamada, a high school student who excels at neither sports nor singing. However, she enjoys working with plants and has been assigned the task of planting saplings and maintaining the flora at her school. She falls in love with Tomoka Kase, a boyish-looking character, and is torn between her impulses. The two gradually come to terms with their sexuality as the story progresses. Bleach (2004 – 2012)
Bleach is a well-known anime that need no introduction. It tells the story of Ichigo, who gets the power of a Shinigami. Despite the fact that the series is classified as shounen, Chizuru Honsho is a lesbian who is enamored with Orihime, particularly her large breasts. This makes her stand out, attracting the attention of Mei Aihara, the president of the student council, who attempts to seize the former’s phone.
Yuzu discovers that her stepsister is none other than Mei when she returns home. Yuzu tries to chat to her, but Mei gives him the cold shoulder, forcing Yuzu to tease her. Mei, on the other hand, does not allow Yuzu to finish her sentence and drags her to the ground, kissing her. Yuzu does get her first kiss, but was it exactly how she imagined it? El Cazador de la Bruja (2007)
‘El Cazador de la Bruja’ recounts the exploits of Nadie, a bounty hunter. Ellis, an amnesiac girl suspected of murdering a famous scientist, is her most recent target. Despite the fact that Nadie finds Ellis, she offers her a chance to reclaim her memories by transporting her to Wiay Marka, a place where amnesia is reportedly treated. The anime follows the lives of five lesbians who are all closeted and tells a touching story of acceptance and growth. Shinobu Oomiya meets Alice during her stay in England and rapidly becomes close friends with her. Shinobu found it difficult to return to Japan because they were so close. Shinobu is now a senior in high school, and many years have passed since then. She receives a letter from Alice, who will be attending Shinobu’s High School and living with her once more. When the two reunite, old feelings resurface, teaching the trio and their friends life-changing lessons.
Konohana Kitan (2017)
‘Konohana Kitan’ is a magical and fanciful shoujo-ai anime. For its imaginative world-building, the show is set in a fantastical universe that combines Japanese culture with mythical animals. There are many races in this earth, each with their own culture and mannerisms. A hot springs inn is Konohanatei. Yuzu is a fox girl from the spirit village who begins working as an attendant at Konohanatei. Another fox girl that works there is Kiri, who assists Yuzu in learning all of her responsibilities. Although Yuzu is eager to contribute, her excitement is the source of many errors. Customers and coworkers typically forgive her because of her cheerful and welcoming demeanor. Yuzu gradually improves at her job as she is assisted by other fox girls, and she feels as if she has found a second family in the Konohanatei inn. Mai-HiME (2004 – 2005)
Though it is a fine shoujo-ai anime with an innovative premise and amusing characters, few people are aware of the ‘Mai-HiME’ event. Although the tale may appear to be slow at first, this will not be the case after a few episodes. Furthermore, fans of magic shows will most likely fall in love with the series. Mai Tokiha is an apparently average girl who is a transfer student at Fuuka Academy. Takumi Tokiha, her younger brother, has also enrolled. Mai comes there to help her brother Takumi, who is very unwell and has a heart issue. Mai pledged to take after Takumi as her mother was dying, and she has maintained her word ever since. Mai discovers she possesses the Hime mark shortly after enrolling at Fuuka Academy, granting her the capacity to call a half-spiritual, half-human child anywhere she wishes.
She is not alone, however, as there are 12 other girls with the Hime mark who have been given this power to safeguard Earth from horrible creatures called as Orphans. Mai becomes involved in the conflict as the Orphans grow too powerful, despite her initial reluctance. Maria†Holic (2009 – 2011)
Ame no Kisaki Catholic School is a girls’ only school. Kanako Miyamae is a transfer student who hopes to discover true love like her parents did at the prestigious educational school. Mnemosyne: Mnemosyne no Musume-tachi (2008)
If you’re searching for traditional shoujo anime, you’ll want to skip this one and check at the other options on this list. The show’s target demographic is individuals who aren’t afraid of violence and enjoy a fascinating story with a lot of fanservice. The premise may appear to be a little too complicated and open-ended at first, but trust us when we say that your patience will be rewarded. ‘Mnemosyne: Mnemosyne no Musume-tachi’ follows Rin Asogi, a beautiful woman who works as a private investigator alongside her accomplice Mimi. Rin is immortal, and the ‘Time Fruit,’ which can only be found in the guardian tree Yggdrasil, is the source of her immortality. It has the ability to make any lady immortal if she consumes it. Mimi is also invincible.
Rin’s life is chronicled over the course of 65 years in the anime series, during which she maintains her youthful appearance while those around her age. Being a detective puts you in risky situations, and Rin has gotten herself into trouble before, but her immortality has always protected her. Revolutionary Girl Utena (1997)
The central theme of ‘Revolutionary Girl Utena’ is Utena’s relationship with Anthy. Utena Tanjou finds emotional support from a prince and decides to follow in his footsteps and become a prince herself. The prince only left her a rose crest ring as a souvenir. She doesn’t realize the importance of the ring until she enrolls in Ootori Academy years later. Riddle Story of Devil (2014)
Tokaku Azuma, a high school student and assassin, is the protagonist of ‘Riddle Story of The Devil.’ Haru Ichinose is a girl that she and 11 other killers are entrusted with assassinating. As a trained assassin, Azuma swiftly gets to work, but she is unable to execute her objective and instead falls in love with the girl she was supposed to kill. Sailor Moon (1992 – 1997)
‘Sailor Moon’ follows Usagi Tsukino, who was just a typical student until she accidentally saved a cat one day without recognizing the ramifications of her actions. The cat turns out to be Luna, who tells Usagi that she will become Sailor Moon, the Earth’s guardian and protector. Despite the fact that the series is exciting and full of action, it is included on our list because of Haruka Tenou’s connection with Michiru Kaiou. The original version of the series depicted the couple courting, albeit it was slightly changed for the American audience. Haruka has also been observed striking Usagi on occasion. Aer is recruited to pilot the Simoun with Neviril, who had recently lost her mate, following a devastating strike by the enemy. Aer feels drawn to her fellow companion and wishes to become closer to her. Neviril, on the other hand, is still trying to come to grips with her history. Strawberry Panic (2006)
If you’re new to the yuri or shoujo-ai genres, ‘Strawberry Panic’ would be a good place to start. The anime is suitable for young teens and does not contain any sexually explicit elements. For the first half of the series, the plot holds up admirably. The characters are intriguing, and you’ll never know who will hook up with whom. St. Miator’s Girls’ Academy, an all-girls Catholic school in the Astraea Hill region, is the focus of the anime. The school is separated into three distinct groups, each of which has its own uniform. Aoi Nagisa enrolls in St. Miator’s Girls’ Academy and learns about the school’s hierarchical system. Shizuma Hanazono, a fourth-year transfer student, runs into the fourth-year transfer student after she tumbles down a hill. Shizuma is a lovely young lady who is always willing to help those in need. Nagisa passes unconscious when she kisses her on the forehead. She gets to know Shizuma better as her time at the academy passes, and the two girls assist each other deal with their difficult pasts. Sweet Blue Flowers (2009)
Matsuoka Girl’s High School’s Fumi Manjoume is a first-year student. She recently went through a difficult breakup and is still dealing with the fallout. Akira Okudaira is a Fujigatani Girl’s Academy student as well as Fumi’s childhood friend. When the pals reunite almost a decade later, they immediately bond and support one another during terrible times. Fumi admits to Akira that she is in love with her. Though Akira is perplexed by her behavior, she does not discount Fumi’s feelings completely. The anime can be rented on YouTube.
Whispered Words (2009)
The anime ‘Whispered Words’ is a romance. Sumika and Ushio are openly in a lesbian relationship in the show. Sumika is a clever and well-liked student who is secretly in love with Ushio, one of her classmates. Sumika is hesitant to reveal her emotions for her crush since she believes Ushio is fussy about her choices. Ushio, on the other hand, had been completely unaware of Sumika’s affections for her. She is reluctant because she has been rejected by other girls.
Yagate Kimi ni Naru (2018)
‘Yagate Kimi ni Naru’ is without a doubt one of the best shoujo-ai anime currently available. Yuu is a devoted reader and fan of the shoujo genre, eagerly anticipating the start of her own romantic love story. So, she should have been overjoyed when a boy confessed his feelings for her and asked her out, right? But, surprisingly, she is completely unaffected. Yuu has no idea what she should say in response. But she is highly impressed when she attends high school and observes the lovely Touko Nagami, the student council president, gently decline a lad who expresses his feelings for her. She wants to be taken under Nagami’s wing and learn how to gracefully decline someone. So far, everything has gone well, right? But what will Nagami do if the next person to reveal her emotions for Yuu is herself? Is her long-awaited love story about to begin? Yuru Yuri (2011 – 2015)
‘Yuru Yuri’ is based on a popular manga series of the same name. The anime is set at a high school and follows the lives of a group of girls. Kyouko Toshinou, Yui Funami, Akari Akaza, and Chinatsu Yoshikawa are four average teenagers with typical adolescent problems and a desire to relax.
Yui and Kyouko, Akari Akaza’s friends, are a year her senior. This is why she will have to spend her final year of elementary school away from her childhood buddies. When she starts middle school, though, everything changes. She forms an Amusement Club with Yui and Kyouko for the sole aim of providing entertainment to its members. Soon later, Akari and another girl named Chinatsu join the group, and so begins a remarkable connection between these girls that will change their lives. The animation can be viewed here.
