The tragic health news that Bruce Willis and his family received is still being lamented throughout Hollywood. Willis’ ex-wife and co-parent Demi Moore made the announcement on Instagram in March 2022 that he would stop acting. Fans then heard that Willis’ decision was motivated by his diagnosis of aphasia, a language (not cognitive) disease that affects communication, as if that decision by one of America’s most adored leading men wasn’t horrible enough on its own. Moore added, “This is an extremely difficult time for our family and we are so grateful for your continuing love, sympathy, and support.”
Rumer Willis gave a heartbreaking update with additional details regarding her father’s condition on February 16, 2023. Rumer wrote on Instagram, “Since we disclosed Bruce’s diagnosis of aphasia in spring 2022, his condition has worsened and we now have a more precise diagnosis: frontotemporal dementia (also known as FTD).” Bruce’s earlier communication issues, she observed, were merely a sign of FTD. Although uncomfortable, she continued, “it is a relief to finally have a firm diagnosis.”
Through a link to the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration website, whose brand ambassador is shortly to be Bruce’s wife, Emma Heming Willis, she urged followers to learn more about the condition. In order for people to understand what lies ahead for the “Die Hard” actor, Willis’ family is working with the group to inform the public of his plight. Thousands of other people who are afflicted by this disease may benefit from this information, they also hope.
