Before going on winter break, Criminal Minds: Evolution’s midseason finale aired on Thursday, December 15. Naturally, the break has left viewers wondering not just when the show will return for the rest of the season, but also how many episodes are left to air.
Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 1 will have a total of 10 episodes, according to an official press release from Paramount Plus. On Thursday, January 12, 2023, the show will resume from its winter hiatus. Thereafter, a new episode will be released every week until February 9.
Fans of Criminal Minds can therefore anticipate five brand-new episodes while we wait impatiently for word on the show’s renewal!
In an interview with Deadline, showrunner Erica Messer expressed her sincere belief that the Criminal Minds saga had not concluded when the series originally ended in 2020. After 15 seasons, CBS formally cancelled the show in 2019.

Will there be a second season of ‘Criminal Minds: Evolution’?
Criminal Minds: Evolution, which is officially in its sixteenth season and is a spinoff of the original series, has not yet received a season renewal from CBS.
Messer told Deadline that he is still optimistic about the prospect of future seasons and added, “I think it could continue on for as long as this group wants to do it. We’re all fired up, enthusiastic, and in love with what we’re doing. I don’t see any reason why we shouldn’t continue doing it as long as we want to.
According to Messer, CBS actually called her in late 2020 and asked if she would like to star in a Criminal Minds spinoff series. Instead, she developed a plot that would allow her to reunite the original Criminal Minds group, focusing Evolution Season 1 on a 10-episode storyline about a “serial murderer that’s beating our team.”
