Disney+ Cancels Big Shot After Two Seasons : What Does the Future Hold Now?

The buzzer is blaring on Disney+’s Big Shot. According to Deadline, the basketball-themed comedy series has been formally cancelled after two seasons. The series’ first season, in which John Stamos plays a fiery basketball coach, had its Disney+ debut in 2021 and was promptly renewed. The series’ fate has remained uncertain since the Season 2 debut in October 2022. Unfortunately for the viewers, it appears Disney decided against continuing with season 3.

Brad Garrett, Dean Lorey, and David E. Kelley are the authors of Big Shot. As Marvyn Korn, a basketball coach who works with a ladies’ basketball team at a California school, Stamos plays the main role in the film. In addition to Stamos, the show also stars Sara Echeagaray, Jessalyn Gilsig, Richard Robichaux, Sophia Mitri Schloss, Nell Verlaque, Iana Le, Monique Green, Tisha Eve Custudio, and Cricket Wampler.

When season 2 was announced, Stamos remarked in a statement, “This show embodies everything Disney is to me—family, inclusion, and harmony. The fact that Disney+ gave us a second season showed that Big Shot is fundamentally about guts and heart. I’m sending tonnes of love to the detractors and supporters who stood up and applauded us from the sidelines. I’m really appreciative to be playing Coach Korn, a character who learns to let go of stereotypes and gain knowledge from an amazing group of ladies, allowing him to develop and grow. He still has a tonne to learn, but… Thankfully, he will have that opportunity in season 2.

We are pleased to be back with Big Shot, Kelley continued, obviously confident that season 3 will eventually happen. The show has won over so many hearts, and Coach Marvyn Korn in particular is brilliantly played by John Stamos. We eagerly anticipate season two and beyond.

In an earlier L.A. Times interview, Stamos said that he had personally stepped in when it appeared that Big Shot might be cancelled after the first season. Stamos claims that, taking inspiration from his on-screen demeanour, he tried all in his power to keep the programme on the air, including personally contacting Peter Rice, the chairman of Walt Disney TV at the time, to make his case. At the time, it worked, as Stamos claims.

He remarked, “I poured my heart out on what the programme meant to me. Additionally, this programme features a 98% diverse female cast. It has feminine empowerment in its genetic makeup. These kinds of shows are necessary.

That was on a Thursday, he said. “On Friday, I received a call from the studio, but I chose not to answer because I anticipated a negative outcome. And they called [co-creators] Dean Lorey and David Kelley to inform them that the project was over. “We tried.” After that, they called back an hour later and said, “Hold on. Evidently, Peter Rice and John Stamos went for a stroll? Peter then instructed us to look for the necessary funding.

On Disney+, you can watch both seasons of Big Shot.
