  • DCS

Beginning in October, London, England will serve as the location for the filming of Disney+’s “Suspect: The Shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes.” The series, which is based on a genuine incident, centres on the shooting murder of Jean Charles de Menezes, a Brazilian national who was slain by British police while they were looking for a cell of terrorists. According to the logline, the series is “set right after the 2005 London bombings and focuses on the manhunt for a group of would-be terrorists and the tragic killing of the innocent Brazilian, after he was mistaken for a suspect.”

The ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike is not anticipated to hinder the filming of the show in London because it is a British production that Disney+ UK has commissioned. The series is just one of many productions that will be filming in the city in the next months, including BBC’s “Ludwig,” Paramount+’s “Insomnia,” HBO’s “C. B. Strike” Season 6, and AMC’s “Gangs of London” Season 3. A number of well-known recently released films, including “Barbie,” “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One,” “The Flash,” “Secret Invasion,” “Silo,” “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” etc., were shot in London.

The series’ script was written by Jeff Pope, who was nominated for an Academy Award for his work on the Dame Judi Dench film “Philomena.” ‘The Lost King,’ starring Sally Hawkins, is another work by Pope that is well recognised. ‘The Walk-In,’ starring Stephen Graham ‘A Confession,’ starring Martin Freeman; ‘Stan & Ollie,’ starring Steve Coogan and John C. Reilly; etc. Pope is one of the show’s executive producers.

recipient of a BAFTA Director of the series is Paul Andrew Williams. ‘Broadchurch,’ ‘Bull,’ ‘Strangers,’ ‘Murdered for Being Different,’ ‘The Cottage,’ ‘London to Brighton,’ etc. are among the films he has directed. ‘The Walk-In,’ ‘A Confession,’ and other projects that Williams and Pope worked on together in the past. The series’ cast has not yet been made public on Disney+.

Kwadjo Dajan, a BAFTA Award winner whose work includes “Little Boy Blue,” “Cilla,” “The Widower,” “Mrs. Biggs,” and “Appropriate Adult,” is the show’s producer. Executive producers include Lee Mason, Director of Scripted at Disney+, and Liam Keelan, SVP of Original Content for Europe and Africa at Disney.

This is an important drama series for us because it reflects our desire to present tales that are true and that matter to our viewers. Jeff Pope and Kwadjo Dajan are extremely passionate about this topic and have long wanted to investigate it. We consider it an honour to work with them on this significant factual narrative, Keelan said in a statement.
