The Peacock original miniseries Dr. Death, which told a horrific tale of medical negligence based on actual occurrences, was a surprising smash for the streaming service. It was based on the podcast of the same name, which served as its inspiration. It followed the life of Christopher Duntsch (Joshua Jackson), a terrible surgeon known for routinely dismembering a long list of patients and killing two of them while they were under the knife. As this is happening, colleagues doctors Robert Henderson (Alec Baldwin) and Randall Kirby (Christian Slater) attempt to stop him. This is accomplished with the aid of Michelle Shugart, a lawyer (AnnaSophia Robb) who seeks to convict Duntsch of murder.
It is still one of Peacock’s most renowned original programs, making a sequel an ideal choice. Fortunately, a second season of Dr. Death is confirmed to be in production, according to a Variety article. While we won’t be following Christopher Duntsch’s prison career, we will be given access to a fresh account of medical mutilation.
This is everything we currently know about Dr. Death’s second season.
Dr. Death Season 2: The Plot
The second season of Dr. Death will follow a brand-new tale because the first season of the podcast was a seasonal anthology. According to Variety’s report, the second season of Dr. Death will feature the following plot:
“Paolo Macchiarini, a charming physician known for his inventive procedures that earn him the moniker “Miracle Man,” will be the focus of Season 2’s narrative. The distinction between personal and professional life starts to blur when investigative journalist Benita Alexander approaches him for a story, changing her life forever. A group of doctors halfway around the world also uncover surprising discoveries that bring everything about the “Miracle Man” into question as she discovers how far Paolo will go to keep his secrets private.”
This is consistent with the first podcast. It seems that season two will place more of an emphasis on the relationship between Macchiarini and Alexander than season one, which mostly dealt with Duntsch being pursued by Kirby and Henderson. The phrase “group of doctors halfway across the world” suggests a level of travel that wasn’t seen in the first season, expanding the scope of the show and possibly bringing us on a global journey. We don’t yet know if Kirby and Henderson will be among those doctors.
Dr. Death Season 2: The Cast and Crew
There is currently little known about the cast and crew of Dr. Death season two. However, Paolo Macchiarini and Benita Alexander have been cast as the season’s stars, according to an official announcement.
Edgar Ramirez will assume the part of Paolo Macchiarini, according to Variety. The Venezuelan actor played the renowned fashion icon Gianni Versace in season two of FX’s American Crime Story. Additionally, he has appeared in several roles in the films The Undoing, The Last Days of American Crime, and Jungle Cruise. He’ll probably shine in the role of a cunning, malevolent doctor based on his prior performances in crime-themed dramas.
Mandy Moore, who gained notoriety in recent years with appearances in This is Us and Tangled, will play Benita Alexander. The actress is also well-known for her musical career, having released seven albums between 1999 and 2022, with her debut album, So Real, earning a platinum certification.
Patrick Macmanus, the showrunner for the first season, will now serve as executive producer for the second season. Macmanus served as the executive producer for the SyFy show Happy!, a darkly humorous series based on the same-named comic novel. Ashley Michel Hoban, who also collaborated with Macmanus on Happy! and served as a producer for Dr. Death’s first season, will take over from him.
Jennifer Morrison, who previously directed the first four episodes, is well-known for playing Dr. Cameron on House M.D. and Emma Swan on Once Upon a Time. The last four episodes will be helmed by Laura Belsey, whose résumé is quite extensive and includes numerous episodes of The Walking Dead, Arrow, and Criminal Minds, among other works.
Release Date
Season two of Dr. Death will unfortunately not be released until later this year. As of right moment, we can anticipate that the show will premiere in 2023.
Dr. Death Season 2: Everything Else
We already know what to anticipate from the third season, should the show go beyond season two. The third season of the podcast serves as the basis for season two of the program.
The second season of the podcast is on the oncologist Farid Fata, who illegally recommended chemotherapy in cases when it wasn’t necessary. It’s probable that the show skipped season two of the podcast in order to stick with the series’ recurring topic of surgery or because a dramatic adaptation of Paolo Macchiarini’s tale works better than a podcast adaptation. In either case, should the program continue to be successful, we have a potential starting point for a third season.
