In April 2017, the discovery of Belgian backpacker Elise Dallemange’s half naked body in a wooded location close to Tanote Bay horrified the locals of Koh Tao Island in Thailand. Elise had already passed away before emergency personnel arrived, and her body had been partially devoured by lizards. The podcast ‘Death Island’ details the horrific incident and even depicts how the authorities made every effort to determine the cause of the tourist’s death. We have the information you need if you’re curious about the terrible death and want to know if Elise was slain.
How Did Elise Dallemange Die?
Elise Dallemange, a native of Belgium, was a follower of Sathya Sai Baba and was residing on the island of Koh Phangan in a yoga and tantra retreat. Additionally, according to reports, Elise had been touring Asia for two years and was scheduled to make her way home to Belgium just before she passed away. She kept in touch with her family and spoke to her mother on the phone frequently while she was away. In reality, Elise’s mother, Michele van Egten, believed that her daughter could not have committed suicide because she claimed her daughter sounded normal when they last spoke on phone.
People who knew Elise concurred with Michele’s assessment, describing the Belgian traveller as a generous and upbeat person who never hesitated to assist those in need. Elise also kept up good relationships with the majority of those around her, making the suddenness of her death all the more unexpected. The Koh Tao police were informed about potential human remains found nearby Tanote Bay on April 27, 2017. Elise Dallemange’s bones were recognised by dental records as being hers, and preliminary reports indicated that she was discovered with a rope around her neck.
Despite the fact that later accounts said that law enforcement officers discovered Elise partially nude, they made no mention of a rope. T-shirts were clumsily used to wrap her body, and it’s thought that some of the remnants were consumed by lizards. Determining the cause of death was also difficult during the initial medical examination, but an autopsy revealed that the person had asphyxiated to death. Therefore, the authorities quickly came to the conclusion that Elise had killed herself, and they ended the case after classifying the incident as a death by suicide.
Was Elise Dallemange Killed?
When Michele van Egten, Elise’s mother, learnt about the suicide-death theory put forth by Thai police, she vigorously disputed it. Elise allegedly departed the island of Koh Phangan on April 19 with the intention of travelling back to Belgium, according to Michele, who last spoke to her daughter on April 17. But why she got off at Koh Tao instead of going to the mainland is still a mystery. Michelle therefore made the decision to disclose the specifics of her daughter’s death to the world in the hopes of learning more information as a last-ditch effort to discover the truth.
The authorities also discovered that Elise had sent her bags through a different operator and had purchased a ticket to the mainland Thai province of Chumphon. It’s interesting that her stuff arrived in Chumphon after she passed away, suggesting that Elise had not intended to commit suicide. Naturally, this prompted law enforcement to resume the investigation, and they quickly discovered that Elise had stayed at the Triple B Bungalows on Koh Tao Island not long before she passed away.
It’s interesting to note that Elise used the fictitious last name “Dubuis” to check in and even hid her passport. Three bamboo hunts, including the one Elise was staying in, caught fire hours after she booked into the hotel, according to sources, but the authorities have yet to determine why the Belgian national used a false name. Elise nevertheless made it out of the fire and headed for the Poseidon Resort, where she reserved a different room.
Additionally, representatives from the Poseidon Resort asserted that they assisted Elise in purchasing a ticket to Bangkok and that she was scheduled to depart the island on April 24. But once the townspeople discovered Elise’s body on April 27, fate had other ideas. Meanwhile, a source from the Crime Suppression Division in Bangkok has revealed that Elise Dallemange attempted suicide on April 4, 2017. The source added that Elise attempted to fling herself in front of a train on April 4 while standing on the platform at Bangkok’s Nopphawong railway station.
She was pulled back at the last second by passengers at the station, saving her life. However, a CCTV video that was made public by the police shows Elise going along a trail just a few minutes before her body was found. Even though law enforcement officials said that the video showed Elise in her final moments, Michele protested that it wasn’t her daughter. We regret to inform you that despite the fact that Elise’s death appeared to be an accident, the Thai police believe she committed suicide. This is because there has been no fresh evidence in the investigation since the CCTV film.
