Due to his roles in some of the most well-known dramas, series, and films, South Korean actor Gong Yoo has become one of the most adored performers in the Korean entertainment industry for almost two decades. He is also a well-known brand and face internationally. A Man and a Woman is a love story with a Finnish setting starring Jeon Do-yeon and Gong Yoo. After spending time with her, he hires her even though he doesn’t realize she’s a woman and starts to fall in love with her as a result of being forced to take over a coffee shop.
Guardian: The Lonely and Great God
Guardian: One of the most popular Korean dramas of the last ten years is The Lonely and Great God, also known as Goblin. Kim Go-eun, Gong Yoo, Lee Dong-wook, Yoo In-na, and Yook Sung-jae make up its all-star cast. When the film opens, a military general (played by Gong Yoo) is watching all of his loved ones killed after being wrongly accused of being a traitor. In the process, he is cursed with immortality and turns into a goblin. A young high school student named Kim Go-eun (who he meets centuries later) strikes him as having the potential to be the key to breaking his curse.
Kim Ji-young, Born 1982
The book Kim Ji-young, Born 1982 gained popularity after its debut in South Korea. The target audience of Cho Nam-feminist joo’s fiction may easily identify with Kim Ji-challenges young’s and point of view. An version that starred Jung Yu-mi and Gong Yoo was published in 2019 to rave reviews. Kim Ji-young begins to live her life as if she is the ladies she knows, such as her mother and grandmother, who are taking possession of her. The narrative describes how she came to operate in such a patriarchal manner in a world where opportunities and many people were biassed in favour of men.
One Fine Day
For fans of Korean dramas, One Fine Day, a production from 2006, is a throwback. It is based on the Flower of Eden manga series. After being transported to an orphanage, the two are adopted by other families. Years later, one (Sung Yu-ri) still resides in Korea, while the other is in Australia (Gong Yoo). The character played by Gong chooses to go back to Korea to attempt to con his sister’s wealthy adoptive family after learning about them.
Seo Bok
Seo Bok, a science fiction film from CJ Entertainment 2021 and directed by Lee Yong-ju, was created in 2019, but the COVID-19 epidemic caused a significant production delay. Gi-heon, a former agent in a South Korean intelligence agency, is played by Gong Yoo in the film. He starts to understand that Park Bo-gum, one of the earliest human clones, may hold the key to extending human life. Silenced
Silenced, which came out in 2011, caused controversy in South Korea. It is based on a real incident in which staff members sexually molested pupils at a school for the deaf. Man grips the wrist of another. When Netflix Squid Game launched in 2021, it quickly gained popularity all across the world. When in need of money, a group of 456 participants is entered into a deadly game; if they win, they will receive the equivalent of 35 million USD. The divorced father (Lee Jung-jae) who is the main narrator of the story intends to use the money he earns to try to gain custody of his daughter before she immigrates to the United States. Gong Yoo made an iconic cameo in the programme as the salesman who asks people to play ddakji in order to sign them up for the games.
The Age of Shadows
The Age of Shadows, a Warner Bros. film directed by Kim Jee-woon, is set during the colonial era of Korean history, when Japan ruled the whole peninsula. Its main character, a police captain working with the Japanese government to attempt and put an end to the Korean resistance movement before it affects domestic operations, is played by Song Kang-ho. Song’s character is attempting to bring it down in order to maintain support for the Japanese government, but in the process, he is made to reflect on his principles.
The Silent Sea
One of the best science fiction shows on Netflix to date may be the miniseries The Silent Sea. It takes place on an Earth where water has become scarce and stars Bae Doona and Gong Yoo. In order to learn what happened to her sister, who perished in a serious disaster along with 117 other crew members, a scientist (Bae Doona), joins a journey to the moon. When the squad and its leader (Gong Yoo) reach the moon, it rapidly becomes apparent that the information they had been given was false and that the situation is far more hazardous than anticipated.
The Suspect
In the 2013 film The Suspect, Gong Yoo plays Dong-cheol, a former senior agent from North Korea. He is forced to flee to China in order to learn what happened to his wife and children when the North Korean government deserts him in the middle of a mission. He makes the decision to exact retribution after learning that they have been killed, defecting to South Korea in order to obtain access to more resources. He is forced to flee once more as South Korean and North Korean authorities pursue him after the businessman he works for is killed and he is named the major suspect.
Train to Busan
The American adaptation of the classic film Train to Busan is still in production, but the release date has been postponed, so it’s unclear what will become of it.
