The remake of “Haunted Mansion” with all-star cast is coming sooner than expected. Eddie Murphy played a real estate agent who works too much and gets stuck with his family in a haunted mansion. That version got a 13 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, so it will be interesting to see if the remake can improve on the idea.
The two “Haunted Mansion” movies are based on the same Disneyland ride. The attraction, which first opened in California’s Disneyland in 1969, was initially conceptualized as a walk-through by Walt Disney himself and soon turned into a ride that took visitors through an eerie mansion in Louisiana. Haunted Mansions eventually showed up in different forms at Disney parks around the world.
The reboot was first talked about in 2010, and Guillermo del Toro was hired to write and make the movie. But when del Toro turned in his script in 2013, it was decided that it was too scary, so “Ghostbusters” writer Katie Dippold was hired to write a new one. In 2021, it was confirmed that Justin Simien would be the director, and on August 2, 2022, Entertainment Weekly said that Jared Leto had joined the cast.
