Will Gao from Heartstopper: Discovering the Rising Star’s Journey

In Netflix’s “Heartstopper,” youth-enlivening levity and young people’s struggles come together. The coming-of-age tale, which was created by Alice Oseman, centres on Charlie Spring and Nick Nelson at the all-boys Truham Grammar School. The young men begin to cautiously lean towards one another after taking seats adjacent to one another. The LGBT romance drama also examines the vitality of friendship and platonic love, yet their desire to one another takes the stage.

The series heavily relies on Charlie’s closest buddy and confidant, Tao Xu. Tao’s vivacious personality enhances the narrative in a number of ways as he assists his best friend in mapping out the uncertainties of life. In the television show, Will Gao plays the part of Charlie’s best friend. Of course, a lot of fans have been interested in learning more about the actor. Will Gao was born on February 20, 2003, and was raised with a lot of cross-cultural influences thanks to his parents’ background. The 20-year-old actor and his younger sister Olivia, the son of an English father and a Chinese mother, were raised according to traditional values. In 2022, he earned his A Levels from Trinity School, the same prep school his character attends exclusively for guys. Will Gao’s Profession

Shakespeare’s Puck and Cobweb was one of the plays that Will presented in 2016, solidifying his position in the theatre world. Will started his career by joining the National Youth Theatre in May 2019. Will chose to apply for the role of Tao after seeing a casting call for an East Asian actor the next year. The East Asian actor was astonished but overjoyed when the chance to appear in the Netflix production came knocking at his door. His father, however, voiced his concerns about the same. Will said in a GQ Magazine interview about it, “He knew how sh-t representation is here. I don’t want my son to enter the acting world as a half-Chinese actor in a field that won’t be particularly representational, he said.

But everything turned out for the best, as Will ended up proving his acting prowess by taking on the role of Tao Xu. Will had intended to spend his 20s reciting Shakespeare, but in the end, he was forced to act for the cameras—and we’re not mad about it! Will continued his winning streak after making the leap from stage to screen. While his performance in “Heartstopper” brought him widespread fame, the actor hasn’t stopped exploring other projects. Will also has an appearance in Guy Pearce’s Guy Baird’s neo-noir independent film “Sunrise.” ‘Breakwater,’ a psychological thriller set in Oxford, is another film where you can see the actor exhibiting his talents.
