The patriarch Arthur Carmichael, the matriarch Eleanor Carmichael, and the children Patrick, Margaret, and Catherine Carmichael make up the Carmichael family. A few months prior to the murders of the entire family at their mansion, Margaret perished in a vehicle accident. The only bodies discovered inside the home belonged to Catherine and Eleanor. Arthur was the main suspect after his tracks were discovered outside the house. But Patrick’s corpse was never found, and the matter remained unresolved.
Margot Bentley, a hobbyist paranormal investigator, made the decision to crack the case in 2021. She travels to the small village with her girlfriend, Rebecca Vickers, to stay at the fabled haunted home for five days. Video footage that was later found among the group’s possessions shows that Chase was attacked after running into one of the mannequins. After waiting for Chase, Margot and Rebecca decide to leave the estate when he doesn’t show up. But Margot and Rebecca’s vehicle breaks down, so they have to cross the thick forest that encircles the mansion on foot. Margot and Rebecca are forced to return to the mansion after seeing a cult’s ritual while strolling in the woods and coming under attack by clowns. Margot and Rebecca sequester themselves inside the mansion, where they endure additional harassment from the clowns.
Chase messages Margot to let her know he’s back and has made some new friends. It turns out to be a ploy to divert attention, though, because Chase has already been slain. The clowns eventually kill Rebecca and Margot as well.
