On November 25, 1975, Kristian Nairn was born in Lisburn, Northern Ireland. He was frequently bullied as a kid because of his amazing height.
These events inspired him to embrace his 6’10” frame in future artistic attempts, along with his mother’s encouragement.
Nairn developed a love of music at a young age and began playing guitar in several Irish rock bands.
Nairn’s love of music eventually turned into an interest in DJing, which would lead him down a different career route.
DJ Career
Nairn eventually logged an astounding eleven years as the main DJ at Belfast’s renowned club, the Kremlin, thanks to his newly discovered talent.
Nairn learned there that he was a true performer in every sense of the term, not just a talented musician and DJ.
Nairn consequently started appearing as the drag queen known as Revvlon. Years later, Nairn would assert that she was the first drag queen in Ireland to be inspired by horror as a guest judge on The Boulet Brothers’ competition series Dragula.
When Nairn was at the peak of his career at the Kremlin, a casting agent came across him and pushed him to try out for a part in the 2007 movie Hot Fuzz, which he didn’t receive because of a poor audition.
He was called for the part of Hodor on HBO’s Game of Thrones as a result of this audition, and the rest is history.
Game of Thrones
Nairn started acting later in his career, but getting his first acting role on Game of Thrones shows both the depth and ambition of his abilities.
Nairn will be recognizable to fans of Game of Thrones and normal TV watchers alike as the sweet, unassuming Hodor who devotedly served the Stark family for the majority of his life.
Due to his personal friendship with actor Isaac Hempstead Wright, Kristian Nairn felt natural in the role of Hodor, who throughout the course of the season evolved into Bran Stark’s guardian.
When Nairn announced the Rave of Thrones tour of Australia in 2014, he even managed to combine his careers in acting and DJing.
He collaborated with numerous well-known bands to perform Game of Thrones-themed DJ sets on this trip.
Nairn was initially concerned about portraying a character who spoke only once, but as the role got more complex, he learned to appreciate Hodor’s nuanced qualities and found it difficult to say goodbye to him.
Up until Hodor’s passing in Season 6, Nairn had an appearance in 23 episodes of Game of Thrones. Nairn is likely to always be recognized and appreciated for his depiction of Hodor because to his popularity as a fan favorite character.
What did he do after Game of Thrones?
Nairn has been acting even since his stint on Game of Thrones came to an end in 2017, taking on jobs with more complexity and prominence.
He still pursues his DJing and musical interests. He appeared in The Appearance, his debut horror movie, in 2018. He jammed with the metal group Megadeth the same year.
His EDM song “Evolve” and a song called “Life is Too Short” that was a collaboration with Alex Graham and REALPROG were both released in 2019. The most recent DJ tour for Nairn took place in 2020.
Even though Nairn regards himself as a fan of the series, he has expressed in interviews that he wishes it had lasted a little longer and that he can see why viewers were angry when it ended.
Earlier this year, Nairn took part in a Game of Thrones mini-reunion that took the guise of a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
He spent the afternoon welcoming visitors to the new Game of Thrones studio tour in Northern Ireland alongside co-stars Isaac Hempstead Wright and Natalie Emmanuel.
What is Kristian Nairn doing now?
Nairn currently appears on the television program Our Flag Means Death. The escapades of gentleman pirate Stede Bonnet and his eccentric crew are the subject of this jovial rom-com.
Nairn plays Wee John Feeney, a pyromaniacal pirate who adores stitching and is a member of Blackbeard’s crew, on the television program. Fans adore his character’s friendly humor and easygoing demeanor.
In 2023, Nairn will also make an appearance in Unwelcome, his second horror movie. Additionally, he keeps making new music, most recently remixing the Ferry Corsten song “Wounded.”
Viewing Kristian Nairn’s Twitch and Twitter profiles, meeting him at different gatherings, and even ordering a customized Cameo are all options for fans of the gamer.
Personal Life
Nairn has been quite upfront about his sexuality since he was 14 years old, despite the fact that he first came out as homosexual to the world in a 2014 interview.
Back then, his mother was encouraging, and she is still one of his biggest cheerleaders now.
