The Undertaker on living his character over the years and life after retirement
The living legend The Undertaker spoke about life after retirement and living with his character over the years during one of the episodes of Out Of Character with Ryan Satin.
Growing up, Mark Calaway was always interested by spooky things, including death.
He grew up around caskets since at one point, family members of his worked in a funeral home.
He laughs today at how things turned out because he had no idea at the time where his career and future would lead.
When he was in the embalming rooms, he was in kindergarten. He remembered that after the service had been postponed for a few hours, he had been in an embalming chamber.
He claimed that they were planning a funeral and had already purchased a casket to place the corpse in.
He made the decision to walk up and see the corpse up close because the service wasn’t going to begin for a few hours and no one was in the chapel.
He proceeded to the coffin and peered inside, claiming to see the corpse moving. Who would have thought that growing up around funeral houses would play a significant role in shaping his personality.
Before he faced Hogan in the survivor series and won the title, it was before 1991.
He was already aware of the momentum and the distinction his persona made from many other characters at the time.
He understood that his ultimate ambition had always been to stand out from the crowd.
As a result, he constantly observed those who were successful and thought about what he would do to set himself out from the crowd.
He then researched Jason Voorhees, Michael Myers, and other horror icons before presenting The Undertaker, a figure he had created. He wanted to give his persona credibility because the idea was so outrageous in the first place.
Even when people did notice him in the airport or outside, he believed he had the power to make them believe.
The ironic part is that the majority of people kept asking him, “Are you truly dead?”
He didn’t have to say anything to anyone for the first four years when everyone leaving the arena was surrounded by onlookers while they steered clear of him.
At the time, people didn’t know how to handle him, so he just sort of made it his way of life.
He didn’t make himself approachable in nearly all circumstances or locations.
He always planned to make people think that the person they saw on television was the same person they saw in the airport.
Since there was no internet back then, he rarely cracked a smile, and since it was just him enjoying his life, he frequently appears stoned-faced in family photos.
He describes his on- and off-screen personas as being very different from one another.
In addition, he enjoys making fun of people and pulling practical jokes now that he is retired.
He struggled for a while to turn off his role, and because he did so while living it, it occasionally affected his personal life.
Though he made many sacrifices for his job and the cool role he is getting to play these days, he is finally rediscovering who Mark Calaway is.
Finally, he can spend quality time with his wife and children without worrying about his rival or what he can do to win that battle.
After spending more than three decades on television, he misses being in the ring. He claims that he would likely still be out there if his body had permitted it.
It’s good to be able to go hunting, fishing, and hanging out with kids on the beach, he continued, and he makes a lot more of an effort today to do those kinds of things while he still can.
Net Worth
It is unknown what her net worth is. However, we do know her ex-net husband’s worth, and he has made a respectable sum of money.
He also demonstrated his acting talent in his first movie, “Suburban Commando.”
