Pop Sugar has reported that John Mayer is now single. The Friends, Lovers or Nothing singer opened up about his love life in great detail to Call Me Daddy podcast presenter Alex Cooper during his appearance on the December 20 episode.
John spoke with Alex Cooper about his past, present, and potential future relationships. He also discussed with the show’s host the effects of sobriety and anxiety on his life.
The Shouldn’t Be Important, But Is The singer claimed that he has always been searching for a committed, lifelong relationship. Every relationship I’ve ever been in has been devoted to the notion that this may last forever, he added.
“This is the bit that shocks people: of course I want to get married,” the musician continued. However, none of his other relationships were successful enough to lead to marriage. He also mentioned how he learned more about himself and his potential life partner along the process.
Sobriety has affected John Mayer’s dating life
Yes, it is what you read. John also talked openly about how his sobriety affected his dating life and made him more “glaringly honest” and vulnerable. I stopped drinking around six years ago, so I don’t have the liquid courage, he added. I simply possess dry courage. You must communicate your ideas.
You have to communicate your fears, the Love on the Weekend singer continued. You can’t simply drink your way past them. When someone in your life responds positively to your concern, that’s connecting. You have to be honest and say, “This is what I’m anxious about.” When I start to panic out a little and they say, “It’s OK,” I don’t think I’ve really bonded with someone.
Mayer also mentioned how his anxiousness had a long-term impact on his love relationships. During the interview, Alex joked, “[Have] you ever experienced a panic attack on a date? That is how relationships are formed.
“For a really long time, I would resist going out with anyone because it would make me feel so nervous,” the I Guess I Just Feel Like singer said. He remembered that his early songs dealt with dealing with anxiousness and the desire to find love despite it.
