The voice of the well-known title characters in Adult Swim’s adult animated sitcom “Rick and Morty” is commonly credited to Justin Roiland. But as the seventh season of the programme airs, Roiland has been replaced by fresh voices assuming the legendary roles. As viewers may recall, Roiland was fired from the popular show due to legal issues and serious misconduct charges against the co-creator of the series. However, fans may worry if Roiland would ever return to “Rick and Morty” given the show’s constantly shifting plot and the seriousness of the accusations and charges made against him.
Will Justin Roiland Return to Rick and Morty?
In January 2023, Justin Roiland was let go from “Rick and Morty.” Roiland was charged with felony domestic assault and false imprisonment in August 2020. The domestic abuse incident reportedly involved a lady Roiland was seeing, and that same month he was arrested. However, because there was insufficient evidence, the charges were withdrawn in March 2023. At this point, Roiland had already lost contact with Adult Swim, the parent network of “Rick and Morty,” which he co-created. At the time, the network did not give a detailed explanation for why Roiland had been fired.
Meanwhile, Roiland faced accusations of sexual misbehaviour at work and exploitative behaviour towards youngsters. These claims include such unethical workplace behaviour including harassment of a female writer on the third season of “Rick and Morty.” Although Roiland was found not guilty of the domestic abuse charges in March 2023, new allegations of sexual assault against the writer and voice actor surfaced in September of the same year. According to reports, Roiland met the woman on Tinder and then abused her sexually. Eleven individuals came forward with unsuitable texts that Roiland had written them between 2013 and 2022.
It is possible to interpret the majority of these accusations—which centre on inappropriate conduct both within and outside of the workplace—as the main cause of Roiland’s termination from the popular animated series. Additionally, it has been said that over the past few years, Roiland and co-creator Dan Harmon’s relationship has gotten worse. Despite the fact that Roiland has not been prosecuted for the accusations of sexual misconduct against him, reports have suggested that Roiland abused his power at work. Consequently, it is quite improbable that Roiland will rejoin “Rick and Morty.” Roiland has been replaced as the voices of the title characters by Ian Cardoni and Harry Belden.
Where is Justin Roiland Now?
Following the dismissal of the allegations of domestic assault against him, Roiland took to social media to make comment. He said he wanted to carry on and concentrate on his artistic endeavours as well as clearing my reputation. Roiland hasn’t, however, formally responded to the accusations of sexual misconduct against him. The claims have been rejected by Roiland’s lawyer, Andrew Brettler, as untrue and defamatory. However, in addition to being fired from “Rick and Morty,” Roiland also lost his creative jobs on a few other projects.
Roiland lost his job as the primary voice actor in the animated sitcom “Solar Opposites” that he had developed for the streaming platform. In a similar vein, he lost his voice role in “Koala Man,” for which he was sacked. Roiland grew up in Manteca, California, where he was born. Roiland was charged with domestic abuse in Orange County, California. Consequently, it is reasonable to presume that Roiland was then residing in Orange County and is still a Californian citizen. At this moment, Roiland has no projects in the works that have been announced. Additionally, he hasn’t posted anything on social media since March 2023.
