Kindred Season 2: Is It Happening Or Hulu Cancelled The Show After One Season?

Octavia Butler’s hive, rise up! After being overlooked for years and seeing subpar adaptations, the famed science fiction author is now making a mark on the big screen. Fledgling, Wild Seed, and Dawn will soon have television adaptations made of them, while Kindred has just made its FX debut. The author’s first feature film, Parable of the Sower, is currently in development at A24.

In Butler’s fourth and most well-known work, Kindred, a Black lady named Dana is forcibly transported back in time to the antebellum farm where her family were slaves. As Dana pinballs between the past and the present, her stays at the plantation get longer and more dangerous, forcing her to confront the horrible history of white supremacy, misogyny, and enslavement. (Kindred ranked fifth on Esquire’s list of the 50 Best Sci-Fi Novels of All Time.) A universe that is eager for more of Butler’s foresight makes its FX premiere. The full thing is currently accessible on Hulu. Will the show go on, though?

Kindred Renewal Status

Although FX has not yet formally renewed Kindred, the production team is still highly enthusiastic about the program.

According to showrunner Branden Jacobs-Jenkins,

“Season Two plans are a top priority for me and the authors. Seasons two, three, and four of our show will be filled with exciting new content. But in order to get a second season, we need people to see the show. I usually advise people to read the book, but if you don’t want to find out what happens, stop reading now. However, there are plans for a second season. Big aspirations

Kindred Season 2 Plot

The first season of Kindred leaves viewers who haven’t read the book on a frustrating cliffhanger: Kevin, Dana’s boyfriend, is stranded in Colonial Maryland, while Dana is frantically trying to escape from modern-day Los Angeles. An old family bible that is rich with information about their ancestors inspires Dana to look through it after her aunt visits. Dana discovers from the Bible that Alice Greenwood, one of her ancestors, would wed Rufus Weylin, the young man who seems to be bringing Dana back in time to save his life. Everything makes apparent at once: Dana needs to keep Rufus alive to assure the birth of her ancestors and to ensure her own survival.

Readers of the book are aware that there is still a lot of story yet to be told: Kevin will have to adapt to a substantial amount of his life in the past, and on Dana’s following trip back in time to save Kevin, she will meet an adult Rufus. Dana’s mother’s potential return to modern-day New York could have severe ramifications, and Tom Weylin is unlikely to readily agree to his wife and kid leaving for Baltimore. Both of these changes were created especially for television.
