Elizabeth Dean and Sonny Dean welcomed Miranda Kamille Dean Barbour into the world in North Pole, Alaska, in December 1994. Ashley, her older sister, and her parents were her roommates. Throughout her jail interviews, she insisted that she had a typical childhood and that her parents had done the best they could. As she recalled the pleasant days, a childlike smile flashed across her face. She asserted that all changed, though, when Melissa and Richard Fernandez, her aunt and uncle, relocated five homes away from her family’s residence. She had just turned three years old.
Prior to telling her mother about it, Miranda claimed she had been subjected to abuse from her “Uncle Rick” for about a year. In 1998, Richard was found guilty of sexually assaulting a child and given a 14-year prison term. She said that the apparent “darkness” inside of her was caused by her uncle’s assault, saying, “I think he created a monster inside of me. It is always present. Miranda’s parents claim that she developed a heroin addiction at a young age and has frequently fled her house since the age of 12.
She reportedly slapped Willow Palin, daughter of former Alaska governor Sarah Palin, and was suspended from Colony High School in Palmer, Alaska. When Sarah was 12 years old, she supposedly committed her first murder a year later after joining a cult. She refused to name the cult leader, but claimed to have slain a man who owed him money. She said that after being drugged and bound to a bed by group members, she was forced to undergo a risky “in-house abortion” after becoming pregnant while a member of the cult.
In 2011, Miranda allegedly became pregnant once more, this time claiming Forrest, their cult’s “No. 2 leader,” was the father. She stated he was deceased, though her mother later refuted this. In March 2012, an Alaskan court mandated that Miranda be given into the care of her maternal uncle, Arlin Fletcher, in North Carolina. She began taking college courses, welcomed a daughter, and applied for a position as a cashier in a Coats, North Carolina, grocery store. There, in late 2012, she met Elytte Randle “Elf” Barbour, who would later become her husband.
He was interested in satanism, too, according to Elf’s former lover Aimee Vaneyll, and the three of them grew close. Elf broke up with Aimee in March 2013, and in June that year, he began seeing Miranda. He was a dishwasher at a neighborhood eatery; in October 2013, the young couple left their employment and fled together. Arlin, however, said she was let go for stealing from her workplace. With pals, Miranda and Elf relocated to the center of Pennsylvania.

Elf claimed that Miranda accompanied guys she met on Craiglist and used their money to pay the couple’s bills. He stressed that she was not a prostitute and that they had never had sex, but he said that she charged between $50 and $850 for each encounter. She meets with them and engages in fascinating chats, he said. The newlyweds, on the other hand, were deliberately looking for a man to kill as a team for the excitement, believing that it would bring them closer as a couple. Before they met Troy LaFerrara, they made a couple fruitless attempts.
Troy, 42, a native of Port Trevorton, Pennsylvania, worked as the senior resident engineer at the Lycoming County Landfill. On November 1st, 2013, Miranda placed a Craigslist ad providing companionship for husband-hating guys. According to court records, Troy responded to it, and on November 11 they met in the parking lot of a nearby mall. After Miranda gave the signal, Elf emerged from the SUV’s backseat and used a cable line to strangle Troy.
Before snatching his wallet and leaving his body in an alley, she also gave him a 20-stab wound with a knife. The murdering pair later celebrated Elf’s birthday at a strip club. But, Miranda’s texts and calls were discovered by the police in Troy’s phone, which was discovered with the body. On December 13, 2013, she was detained, and Elf was detained three days later. At first, Miranda claimed she killed Troy out of self-defense, but Elf later admitted to their murderous plots to the police.
Although initially entering a not guilty plea to first-degree murder charges, Miranda and Elf subsequently agreed to a plea deal and acknowledged to second-degree murder. On September 18, 2014, they received a sentence of life in jail without the possibility of parole. She asserted that she stopped counting after 22 and that she had killed at least 100 individuals in six years throughout four states—Alaska, California, North Carolina, and Texas. Miranda said that the killings were carried out by “Super Miranda,” her alter ego.
She also claimed to have slain people who had performed bad deeds and deserved to die, portraying herself as a compassionate killer. The Alaska State Troopers said they have found no proof of any murders she is accused of committing in the state, leading the authorities to question the veracity of her statements. Miranda still stands by her position despite the fact that even her relatives said she might be lying because she couldn’t have committed so many murders without their knowledge. The 28-year-old is being detained at the State Correctional Institution in Muncy, Pennsylvania, according to official records. The State Correctional Prison in Forest, Pennsylvania is where Elf, 31, is incarcerated.
