Mish was of Bengali ancestry and was born in 1969 in Kolkata, India. She was a meteorologist by trade and had spent several years working for many businesses. She worked for more than 20 years. She graduated from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, with a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology. She then earned a Master of Science in Technology from Harvard University.
Michaels began her career in New Hampshire before moving to Boston, where she worked for the television stations WHDH-TV and WBZ-TV. In September 2001, she joined the WBZ-TV weather crew, and she left in 2009.

A family friend posted the sad news of the Boston meteorologist’s passing on the social networking site Facebook. She received a great deal of praise during her career for her outstanding performance as a weather reporter.
“It is with tremendous regret that we announce the news of the departure of our dear Mish Michaels,” stated the statement posted on Facebook. Her passing has saddened our entire family. She was an honourable equestrian, loyal mother, wife, daughter, aunt, and friend in addition to being a distinguished television meteorologist and environmental reporter.
