Narco-Saints, an interesting K-drama on Netflix, is perfect for those looking for their next fix of a criminal show.
A businessman named Kang In-gu (played by Ha Jung-woo) goes undercover to attempt and apprehend drug boss Jeon Yo-han (Hwang Jung-min) in Suriname, South America, in the South Korean drama that is based on a true tale.
Some Netflix users might think that the show’s name makes them think of the Narcos franchise. Here is all the information you require regarding the new programme.
Is Netflix’s ‘Narco-Saints’ Connected to the ‘Narcos’ Franchise?
Kang is sent undercover by the National Intelligence Service to target the drug kingpin in Narco-Saints because Jeon is carrying out his illicit drug trade under the appearance of a priest, and when his first contact with Jeon placed him in jail, he had no choice but to accept the post.
Meanwhile, the Narcos franchise includes of the two television series Narcos and Narcos: Mexico. The first focuses on the Colombian cocaine lord Pablo Escobar (Wagner Moura) and the Cali Cartel’s successors.
Though Narco-Saints features a drug lord who ships cocaine from South America to South Korea, it is not directly related to any of these shows. It also has nothing to do with the venerable Netflix franchise.
The names of the characters have been changed from their real-life equivalents, and some of the events in Narco-Saints have also been dramatised for the sake of the show. However, the show is only loosely based on a true incident.
The names of the characters and the events depicted in Narcos and Narcos: Mexico are designed to mirror the actual events they are based on, and both shows follow significant historical events like the assassination of Pablo Escobar.
The title similarities between the two episodes seems to be coincidental, although it’s possible that Narco-Saints was given that name to attract viewers by making them think of Netflix’s Narcos series.
The Yoon Jong-bin-directed programme will undoubtedly be enjoyed by viewers of the director’s earlier productions, such as The Spy Gone North, which also features Hwang, who plays the villain in Narco-Saints, this time around.
Even though the two shows aren’t related, Narco-Saints is packed with action and contains a dramatic cat-and-mouse game between Hwang’s drug lord and Ha’s businessman-turned-spy. As a result, the programme will undoubtedly appeal to lovers of crime dramas like Narcos and Narcos: Mexico.
Netflix now has Narco-Saints available in its entirety.
