National Treasure: Edge of History: Trailer, Release Date & Cast. Is Nicolas Cage Back?

In 2004, Nicolas Cage’s portrayal of Benjamin Franklin Gates enchanted audiences as he worked through a series of challenging puzzles to unearth an unparalleled buried treasure. Disney+ is now starting the TV show resurrection dubbed National Treasure: Edge of History, approximately 15 years after the release of National Treasure: Book of Secrets and 18 years after the premiere of National Treasure.

Edge of History follows Jess Valenzuela (Lisette Olivera), a DREAMer driven to discover her family’s history, rather than Nicholas Cage. She starts looking for a Pan-American treasure and quickly meets Billie Pearce (Catherine Zeta-Jones), a cunning expert in antiquities on the illicit market who will do anything it takes to get her hands on the loot first.

Olivera, a Mexican American, has a personal connection to the character of Jess. Olivera told TV Guide, “My family was from Mexico, but they came to the United States in search of a safer and better life for their family. “Jess and I both grew up here, and our family histories were identical.” According to Olivera, she and her character both identify as Americans. The actor continued, “For Jess’ example, she is a DREAMer but she is extremely emphatic about it not being all that she is and it not defining her. With the difficulties that life forces upon you and you are powerless to stop, I believe that a lot of people can connect to it in general.

Olivera claimed that for seven months, she gave her everything to the part. It is a true honor, she added, “to be able to represent a DREAMer and someone in this world who is undocumented or was not born in the United States.” “I did not treat the obligation lightly,”

Edge of History is being directed by Mira Nair (Monsoon Wedding), while the two original films’ director Jon Turteltaub is back to executive produce. Cormac and Marianne Wibberley, who collaborated on the screenplays for the National Treasure movies, will be joining them. A producer from the first movie, Jerry Bruckheimer, also reappears.

National Treasure: Edge of History trailer

In the teaser, Peter Sadusky (Harvey Keitel), who introduces Jess Valenzuela to a new world of mystery, excitement, and danger, informs her that all she knows about her late father is a lie. Billie Pearce, meantime, asserts her desire for the artifact. To us, it appears to be National Treasure!

National Treasure: Edge of History cast

The series’ protagonist, Jess, played by Lisette Olivera, is a “bright and tenacious DREAMer in pursuit of answers about her family,” according to Disney+. The adversary Billie, played by Catherine Zeta-Jones, is out to stop Jess and her pals and get to the treasure first. According to Deadline, Zuri Reed will play Jess’ best friend Tasha and Lyndon Smith will portray FBI agent Ross. Another of Jess’ close friends, Ethan, joins the group. Antonio Cipriano will play Oren, a “lovable but self-obsessed goofball,” according to Deadline. Liam, a singer who hails from a family of treasure seekers, will be portrayed by Jake Austin Walker.

Harvey Keitel will reprise his role as Peter Sadusky from the movies in the series, it was revealed at San Diego Comic-Con 2022. Justin Bartha will reprise his role as Riley Poole, Ben’s best buddy, as was previously revealed by Disney+ earlier this year.

Sadly, Nicolas Cage won’t be appearing as Ben Gates again in Season 1, although he has the option of coming back. According to showrunner Marianne Wibberly, “If we get a Season 2, we’ll plead to get him.” “We adore the man. He’s a brilliant actor and a good person. He was our initial pick to play Ben Gates. We never gave anyone else a thought. He undoubtedly plays a significant role in the program.” But if Disney wants to get Cage back, they might have to make him an offer he can’t refuse. According to Cage, who currently stars in independent films, he prefers making them to the high-profile studio productions he previously worked on, such as National Treasure. However, he continues to get along well with executive producer Jerry Bruckheimer.
