The NBC network has already renewed Night Court for Season 2 under the direction of Melissa Rauch.

The two-episode launch of Night Court brought NBC’s “largest comedy audience in more than five years,” according to The Hollywood Reporter, which led to the network renewing the series for a second season. The Night Court revival made its debut on January 17, garnering 7.55 million viewers for the pilot episode and 6.94 million viewers for Episode 2. With 5.17 million viewers for Episode 3 and 4.77 million viewers for Episode 4, the show has continued to perform well. The fifth episode will premiere on Tuesday, February 7.

According to Lisa Katz, president of scripted content at NBCUniversal Television and Streaming, “it’s so rewarding to have audiences respond and return to a show in which they have such incredibly warm feelings, and, more broadly, it’s testament to how broadcast is still a huge driver of communal viewing.” Thank you so much to our studio partners, the amazing cast, the amazingly creative authors and producers, and the crew who turned the lower Manhattan courthouse into a real family.

“The results are in, and Night Court’s “new-boot” is a success! The series’ razor-sharp humor makes it a must-watch each week, “said Warner Bros. Television Group chairman and CEO Channing Dungey. “We are ecstatic that court will continue to meet and that new cases will be heard in season two. We are incredibly appreciative of our NBC coworkers, the incredibly skilled creative team led by Melissa Rauch, Winston Rauch, Dan Rubin, and John Larroquette, as well as the outstanding ensemble cast.”

Night Court Is Back in Session

The original Night Court was created by Warner Bros. Television and broadcast on NBC, just like the revival. Over the course of nine seasons, from 1984 to 1992, the sitcom aired a total of 193 episodes. The late Harry Anderson played Harold “Harry” T. Stone, a youthful, unconventional judge who oversaw a criminal court’s night shift in lower Manhattan. Along with many other actors, the performance featured Markie Post, John Larroquette, and Charles Robinson.

In 2020, NBC started working on a Night Court follow-up series with Larroquette already committed to playing Reinhold Daniel Fielding Elmore once more. The project was given the green light in 2021, and Melissa Rauch of The Big Bang Theory fame was cast as the starring role of Abby Stone, Harry Stone’s daughter who continues on her late father’s footsteps. NBC’s Night Court reboot also stars India de Beaufort, Kapil Talwalkar, and Lacretta in addition to Rauch and Larroquette. Gina, played by Faith Ford, is Abby’s mother.
