Several actors, musicians, and other celebrities have come out in support of the trans community as a result of the surge in transphobic violence and the removal of their fundamental human rights in the US and other countries. They hope that their influence will help bring about positive change. Recent inquiries about Noah Galvin’s membership in the transgender community have put him in the public eye. Irrespective of whether it is moral to do so, is actor Noah Galvin a transgender person?
Noah Galvin is a member of the LQBTQ+ community, although he does not identify as trans and is not transgender. His pronouns are he/him and he is a cis male actor who recently announced his engagement to Ben Glatt, another actor.
Now that we are aware of Noah’s pronouns and whether or not he is transgender, we can discuss the ethics of this question and the reasons why, regardless of the response, we shouldn’t query the sexual orientation, gender, or gender identity of others in public. I also want to explore the possibility that some individuals believed Noah Galvin to be transgender.
Noah Galvin’s involvement with RuPaul’s Drag Race
Since the fight for LGBTQ+ rights first caught the public’s attention, drag queens and kings have been a part of the LGBTQ community. Drag queens don’t always fall under the umbrella of LGBTQ culture, but the movement has its roots there. The most accepting people can be found in drag, regardless of ethnicity, gender, or sexual orientation. Drag is gender inclusive.
Nonetheless, some people continue to mistakenly believe that those who perform as drag kings or queens are a part of the transgender community. Although I don’t rule out the possibility of a transgender individual performing drag, most drag queens and kings self-identify as cisgender males or females. Even being gay or lesbian is not a requirement for participation.
What role does Noah Galvin play in all of this, then? Since Noah served as a judge on episode 9 of season 9 of the programme, some viewers might have mistakenly concluded that Noah was a trans man since, as I previously mentioned, many individuals mistakenly believe that being a drag performer qualifies one as a member of the transgender community.
Early childhood
Although we can’t say for definite whether Noah is trans or not, I think he isn’t based on the throwback Thursday pictures he frequently shares on Instagram. Noah always exhibited and displayed traits that a biological male would have.
In November 2022, Noah Galvin, an openly gay guy, declared his engagement to Ben Platt. He came out as gay when he was 14 years old, and even though it isn’t mentioned anywhere, I assume he gets along well with his family despite the fact that his mother is Jewish and his father is a Catholic.
Sexual orientation
As gay men defy gender expectations and aren’t scared to embrace their feminine side, they are more likely to be misgendered and confused with transgender people. Lesbians who present as masculine have the same issue, but let’s not equate our appearance and the things we wear with our gender identification.
Stereotypes are problematic
The gender standards that society imposes on us and the myths that surround the LGBTQ+ group, in this case the trans community, are the things that keep coming up when we consider the wider picture. Let’s examine the potential causes of the assumption that Noah is transgender and make some observations about the long-term harm caused by these enforced prejudices.
Theather kid
It is clear that Noah was a theatre kid given that his early acting career appears to have taken place there. Noah performed in off-Broadway musicals and even took Ben Platt’s position in the musical Dear Evan Hansen.
Since theatre kids are frequently portrayed as outcasts, it goes without saying that they find solace and a feeling of community among other theatre kids. This aspect may have led some others to believe that Noah is more than just a person who stumbled upon his calling and has a love for theatre.
Physique
Little can be said about Noah’s physical characteristics. One thousand people might all have quite distinct physical characteristics, and Noah doesn’t exactly exude the stereotypically “macho” aura that men are frequently supposed to project. Although it doesn’t lessen his status as a male, this might have led others to mistake him for a trans guy.
The bottom line
People find it more and more difficult to maintain their privacy in the modern world, especially celebrities. Everyone has the right to privacy, but it’s common to think that just because someone is well-known, they have to disclose everything with their followers and the public.
This is untrue, and making assumptions about someone’s gender identity feels impolite. Only the people Noah chooses to share this information with have a right to know. If he so chooses, we have no right to know anything about him.
Despite the fact that my initial response was that he is a cisgender gay man, I could be mistaken, and the only thing that should matter is that Noah is a fantastic actor with a promising future, regardless of his gender, sexual orientation, race, or upbringing.
