People say that “The Office” is the funniest sitcom ever made. The series, which ran from 2005 to 2013, was a remake of the British version starring Ricky Gervais. It followed the antics of the people who worked at the Dunder Mifflin Paper Company in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
During its run, “The Office” was nominated for 42 Emmys and gave us characters like Andy Bernard (Ed Helms) and Robert California that we’ll never forget. In the ninth and final season, Pete Miller (Jake Lacy) and Clark Green (Clark Duke) replace Kelly Kapoor (Mindy Kaling) and Ryan Howard as the new customer service reps.
His coworkers soon call him “New Jim,” and Andy calls him “Plop.” Even though it seems like Pete and Jim Halpert (John Krasinski) don’t have much in common, they both like receptionists. Pete dates Erin Hannon (Ellie Kemper), and Jim realizes that Pete will have the same boring job at Dunder Mifflin. Pete was last seen at the party in the warehouse, and no one knows what happened to him or Erin after that.
Lacy had a successful career in both movies and TV after his short time on “The Office.”
After “The Office” ended in 2014, Jake Lacy did one episode of “The Michael J. Fox Show” and then played Keith on “Billy and Billie” for eight episodes.
In 2015 and 2016, he had a recurring role as Fran Parker in the hit HBO show “Girls.” This helped him become even more well-known.
Fran is a teacher who shows up in the fourth season. She meets Hannah Horvath, played by Lena Dunham, at the school where she just started working. They hit it off, but when he realizes Hannah’s going out with him to make her boyfriend, Adam Sackler (Adam Driver), jealous, he ends the date.
But Fran’s story is not over yet. Even though their first date went badly, Fran calms Hannah down after she has a panic attack, and by the end of the season, they are together.
Lacy comes back as Fran in the next season, but this time he is the main character. However, his relationship with Hannah is not great. They fight about everything all the time, like the dirty pictures he keeps on his phone and how she grades her students’ papers. Fran and Hannah break up after a huge fight during their three-month road trip.
He was a comedian
Jake Lacy got a part on Showtime’s “I’m Dying Up Here” a year after he was on “Girls.” His co-star from “The Office,” Clark Duke, was also in the show. The comedy-drama series is set in 1973, and Jim Carrey was one of its executive producers. It follows a group of comedians as they try to get famous through Goldie’s (Melissa Leo) Comedy Club and end up on “The Tonight Show With Johnny Carson.” As Goldie guides the comics, they have to deal with the ups and downs of their careers, especially how competitive the industry is.
Nick Beverly is a stand-up comedian who comes back to Los Angeles after being on the road for a while. Nick is a comedian with a bit of a bad reputation because he took opium before going on “The Johnny Carson Show.” Even though his routine goes well, Carson doesn’t tell him to come over to the couch, and Nick has to wonder why. Despite his good nature and gorgeous looks, Nick’s substance abuse and family trauma makes it a struggle to re-acclimate into the Los Angeles comedy scene, especially when he’s not welcomed back with open arms.
Despite a high audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, “I’m Dying Up Here” did not do so well with critics and, as a result, was canceled after its second season.
He was a hotel guest
In 2021, Jake Lacy was chosen to play Shane Patton on HBO’s “White Lotus,” a black comedy-drama anthology series. At the hotel with the same name as the show, the focus is on the guests and staff, whose different mental and social problems affect their vacations and jobs.
Shane and his new wife, Rachel (Alexandra Daddario), start their honeymoon in Hawaii at the White Lotus. Shane is rich and looks good, but he is arrogant, rude, and full of himself. As his and Rachel’s trip goes on, it becomes clear that there are problems in their marriage. He and his mother, Kitty (Molly Shannon), constantly break down Rachel’s identity by telling her she shouldn’t work anymore because she’s rich and that her future is full of charity events and galas.
Shane’s marriage to his wife is bad, and he also has problems with the hotel manager, Armond. This leads to the death of the second person and ties into the first episode, in which someone’s body is put on a plane. In the end, Shane gets back together with his wife, and there are no consequences for killing Armond.
He helped write a hit sitcom
This movie shows how hard it was for Lucille Ball (Nicole Kidman) and Desi Arnaz (Javier Bardem) to get along while “I Love Lucy” was being written and filmed. Along with Madelyn Pugh (Alia Shawkat) and Jess Oppenheimer, Lacy played Bob Carroll Jr., one of the writers who helped make the show a hit.
Carroll, Pugh, and Oppenheimer have just as much to deal with as the rest of the cast and crew throughout the movie. Not only did they have to come up with new ideas to keep the audience laughing and wanting more, but they also had to deal with the drama behind the scenes, which they talk about in flashbacks. These include the troubled marriage between Ball and Arnaz, Vivian Vance’s (Nina Arianda) anger at being portrayed as “less attractive” than Ball, and the fear that the studio would be shut down if Ball was accused of having communist ties.
“Being the Ricardos” did well at the box office, and Kidman, Bardem, and J.K. Simmons, who played William Frawley, were all nominated for an Academy Award.
He is a family friend
Most recently, Jake Lacy got the lead role in “A Friend of the Family,” a Peacock-only show that viewers found disturbing. The drama series is based on the true story of Jan Broberg, who was groomed and used by Robert Berchtold in the 1970s. Mckenna Grace plays Jan Broberg.
Here, Lacy again plays a real person, but he’s not the one who made a popular show come to life. Instead, he plays Berchtold, a man who breaks the Brobergs’ trust and takes their daughter, who is 12 years old. Even after her parents get her back, he takes her away again two years later.
In an interview with TV Insider, Lacy talked about what it was like to bring this man to life on TV. Even though he thought that Berchtold sometimes thought he was in love with Jan, their relationship was toxic, hard, and aggressive. Lacy liked Grace’s acting and the fact that her real-life therapist, Jan Broberg, played her on-screen therapist in the last episode.
