The user brought up Liu’s engagement in a racist incel community and questioned his participation in other troubling actions.
Who is Simu Liu?
In the 2021 movie “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” which is a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Simu Liu, a Canadian actor, plays Shang-Chi.
He rose to fame for his portrayal of Jung Kim in the CBC Television comedy “Kim’s Convenience.” For his contributions to the television series “Blood and Water,” Liu has won nominations at the ACTRA and Canadian Screen Awards.
In addition to his acting success, Liu wrote the memoir “We Were Dreamers” in 2022, and Time magazine named him one of the “Artists” category’s 100 Most Influential People in the World.
Early Life
His parents, Zhenning and Zheng Liu, welcomed him into the world on April 19, 1989 in Harbin, China. His parents met while enrolled in an engineering programme at a Beijing university.
When Liu was five years old, his mother stayed in Beijing and continued to work while his father travelled to the United States to obtain a Ph.D.
Liu was brought up by his grandparents in Harbin at this time. His memories of this time are “idyllic and happy.”

Liu’s parents worked as dishwashers to pay for their education and went on to become prosperous aerospace engineers.

He recalls the tremendous pressure he felt to live up to their expectations and defines their parenting style as rigid.
Since he was a small child, Liu’s parents pushed him to do well in school, emphasising arithmetic and giving him homework that included reading biographies of scientists and learning algebra.
He attended the University of Toronto Schools and went on to the Ivey Business School at the University of Western Ontario to study business administration.
Career progression
Simu Liu began his career performing stunts and serving as an extra in numerous movies and music videos.
Two notable works are “Pacific Rim” by Guillermo del Toro and “I Could Be the One” by Avicii.
Despite beginning with little jobs, his talent and commitment gradually led to him being given more important opportunities.
Liu received many nominations and awards during the course of his career. In the past, he and his fellow cast members in the 2016 Factory Theatre production of the play Banana Boys were nominated for a Dora Mavor Moore Award in the Outstanding Ensemble category.
He received the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television’s Radius Award at the 11th Canadian Screen Awards in January 2023.
For the 2022 Juno Awards, he also took home the Canadian Screen Award for Best Host in a Live Entertainment Special.
