Moviegoers rushed to see The Holiday towards the end of 2006. The romantic comedy with Kate Winslet, Cameron Diaz, Jude Law, and Jack Black quickly became popular. It has entered many people’s holiday rotations more than fifteen years later. However, new reports have made some fans wonder when a sequel would be released.

Nancy Meyers wrote, produced, and directed the 2006 romantic comedy The Holiday. It opens with Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz playing women from the UK and the US, respectively, who decide to switch residences for a change of scenery over the holidays. They fall in love with Jude Law, who plays Winslet’s brother, and Jack Black as they travel across the pond (who plays a film composer associate of Diaz).
The Holiday premiered on November 29 in New York City and debuted on December 8 in both the United States and the United Kingdom. It became the eleventh highest-grossing film directed by a woman in the 2000s after earning $63 million domestically in North America and $142 million internationally.
Early in December, there were first whispers of a The Holiday sequel. The Sun claimed that filming would resume in the United States and the United Kingdom in 2023 and that the main ensemble cast had all agreed to return. This set the rumour mills going and raised the possibility of a sequel movie.
Unfortunately, a number of well-known characters from the original movie quickly refuted the reports. The Holiday’s screenwriter, producer, and director, Nancy Meyers, took a screenshot of one of the numerous tweets concerning a prospective sequel. She wrote, “Sorry but it’s not real. In an interview with People to promote Avatar: The Way of Water, Kate Winslet also addressed the claims. “The Oscar winner admitted, “I read something about that, but this is the first I’ve heard of it. I swear I haven’t spoken with any agents, representatives, or anyone else from the beginning about it. I can honestly say that has never happened.”
Unfortunately, it appears that The Holiday won’t be receiving a reboot or sequel anytime soon, despite the fact that Hollywood seems to be flooded with them these days.
