The 2020 popular Netflix movie The Old Guard is currently confirmed to be in production, and the sequel’s lead Charlize Theron has released two behind-the-scenes images highlighting the cast members who are returning.
The returning actors are seen in the pictures, which Theron shared on Twitter, smiling and chit-chatting outside. The message says, “Let’s start working. @OldGuardMovie @NetflixFilm, #TheOldGuard2, “Reiterating that the movie’s filming has begun.
Theron is pictured once again with co-stars from the original movie, including Chiwetel Ejiofor (Doctor Strange), KiKi Layne (If Beale Street Could Talk), Marwan Kenzari (Aladdin), and Luca Marinelli (Martin Eden). Henry Golding (Crazy Rich Asians), who was just added to the cast, can be seen in the picture with the cast together with Victoria Mahoney, who takes over for Gina Prince-Bythewood as the film’s director. Uma Therman, who starred in Pulp Fiction, will also make an unspecified appearance in the sequel but isn’t in the pictures that Theron uploaded.
The Old Guard, which is based on the comic book of the same name written by Greg Ruka and Leandro Fernández, received favourable reviews from reviewers upon its initial release on Netflix in the summer of 2020. The movie received a 70% audience rating and an 80% critical score on Rotten Tomatoes. The movie received praise for its action scenes and cast members’ performances. The praise for the movie was a reflection of its appeal, as it quickly rose to the top of the streaming service’s list of most-watched films. The movie’s plot revolved around a group of immortal mercenaries who battle to keep their identity a secret.
The news that a sequel would be released in 2021 did not come as a surprise to many because of the success of the first movie. Fans of the original movie may now look forward to the return of their favourite characters when The Old Guard 2 eventually makes its Netflix debut, even though the sequel’s storyline details are still unclear.
Theron, Layne, Kenzari, Marinelli, Matthias Schoenaerts (Red Sparrow), Veronica Ngô (Da 5 Bloods), Ejiofor, Golding, and Thurman all appear in Mahoney’s The Old Guard 2.
Netflix currently offers the first Old Guard movie for streaming. There isn’t a specific date for the release of The Old Guard 2.
