The Passion of the Christ: Resurrection : Is It Happening Or They Cancelled It?

One of the all-time top-grossing R-rated films is The Passion of the Christ. The movie, like previous R-rated movies that become popular with general audiences, wasn’t without controversy, either. It was allegedly antisemitic and even reviewer Roger Ebert called it “the most violent film I have ever seen.” It was directed by Mel Gibson and starred Jim Caviezel.

Despite playing the title role of Jesus Christ in a hugely successful movie, Jim Caviezel struggled to find work after The Passion of the Christ. Over the years, he has continued to be a major figure in the field of religious entertainment, making appearances on numerous TV shows and in numerous films. His filmography features religious productions like Onyx: Kings of the Grail and Paul, Apostle of Christ.

However, it appears that Caviezel might be going back to his most well-known role when he announced that there will be a sequel to The Passion of the Christ in an interview with Breitbart in September 2020. The theme of the follow-up will be Christ’s resurrection. What is known so far about the impending film Caviezal claims will “be the largest film in global history?”

When will The Passion of the Christ: Resurrection be released?

Caviezel revealed in the interview that Mel Gibson is presently revising the script. As said by the actor, “I recently received the third image and third draught from Mel Gibson. It’s on the way.”

It is therefore evident that Gibson is now revising the script and is at the third draught. Before Gibson is ready to begin filming, the script may go through a number of different revisions.

The P assion of the Christ: Resurrection’s IMDb page lists 2022 as the year of release. Those kinds of imprec ise deadlines are, of course, susceptible to change, and given that the COVID-19 outbreak has caused countless film and television productions to be delayed, it might be some time before any filming can begin again. We probably won’t have a concrete release date until at least a script is completed, so be on the lookout for any fresh information as it becomes available.

Who’s in The Passion of the Christ: Resurrection cast?

In the follow-up, Jim Caviezel is anticipated to return as Jesus Christ (via Droid Journal). Other actors from the 2004 film’s original cast are anticipated to return, but as of this writing, there have been no formal confirmations.

It wouldn’t be shocking to see Maia Morgenstern return to her original role as Mary, the mother of Jesus. Additionally, viewers can anticipate seeing Francesco DeVito and Christo Jivkov reprise their respective roles as Peter and John.

However, the cast’s identity is still mostly a secret, and since Gibson is constantly revising the script, it’s possible that certain characters will be added or removed as production progresses. In addition, Monica Bellucci as Mary Magdalene, Luca Lionello as Judas Iscariot, and Hristo Naumov Shopov as Pontius Pilate are possible cast members who might make a comeback for Resurrection. It would make sense to feature at least a few of the characters who interacted with Jesus during his final days since the movie will deal with what happened following his death.

What’s The Passion of the Christ: Resurrection plot?

What will be covered in The Passion of the Christ’s sequel is currently solely a matter of conjecture. However, based on the subtitle Resurrection, we can infer that it will come after Jesus’ resurrection three days after his crucifixion.

During the Last Supper, Judas betrays Jesus Christ, who is thereafter executed by Pontius Pilate. The first movie spends a lot of time following Jesus as he travels with his cross to his final resting place. Jesus is later removed from the cross and laid in a tomb; the movie’s climax depicts Jesus emerging from the tomb.

It’s feasible that the follow-up will depict what Jesus performed in a spirit world during the course of those three days prior to his resurrection. It’s also feasible that a portion of the movie would highlight the effects of Jesus’ death and resurrection on the planet Earth and illustrate what his apostles did right after his crucifixion. But until we hear from Mel Gibson himself about what the sequel contains, it’s all just a matter of conjecture.
