The Peripheral will premiere a second season on Prime Video, it has been announced. Despite being anticipated following the success of season 1, Deadline reports that the sci-fi series has been officially renewed for season 2. In a statement, the show’s executive producers, Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan of Kilter Films, expressed excitement about continuing the plot with a second season.
The statement continues, “We are pleased to continue the voyage into Season 2 and explore even further into the fantastic universe that Gibson created. “We’re grateful to our partners at Amazon and, most of all, to the fans,” the team said on behalf of Scott Smith, Vincenzo Natali, and themselves.
The series is based on William Gibson’s book of the same name. Amazno Studios and Warner Bros. TV are working with Kilter Films to produce the TV adaptation. Along with showrunner and series creator Scott B. Smith (A Simple Plan), director Vincenzo Natali (In the Tall Grass), Athena Wickham (Westworld), and Steven Hoban, Nolan and Joy (Westworld) serve as executive producers.
According to Vernon Sanders, head of global television at Amazon Studios, the news of the renewal “produced an unforgettable journey for our global audience and we are thrilled with how they embraced the series because of William’s mind-bending story in partnership with the brilliant minds of Scott, Jonathan, and Lisa. As this incredibly ambitious project develops, we anticipate expanding our collaboration with Warner Bros. and Kilter Films.
Season 2 of The Peripheral Is Now in the Works
Chloe Grace Moretz, who plays a lady trying to escape her present reality by delving further into the world of virtual reality, leads the cast of the show. Jack Reynor, Gary Carr, JJ Feild, T’Nia Miller, Louis Herthum, Katie Leung, Melinda Page Hamilton, Chris Coy, and Alex Hernandez all appear on the program.
In a MovieWeb interview, director Vincenzo Natali explained that when he first suggested making a Peripheral series to Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, with whom he worked on Westworld, “I was trying to introduce them to William Gibson.” “I yearned for his writing’s texture to be depicted on the screen so terribly. There may have been previous William Gibson adaptations, but I don’t think any of them really caught that. I adore anything he writes. It has, in my opinion, a characteristic that feels incredibly complex, layered, textured, and real.”
The Peripheral’s first season is available for streaming on Prime Video. The start of Season 2 has not yet been set.
