The Walking Dead: Dead City Episode 5 Recap

Dead City Episode 5, “Stories We Tell Ourselves,” Maggie, Tommaso, Amaia, and Ginny continue their search for Hershel through a tunnel. Tommaso appears out of nowhere with two oxygen tanks and distributes them to the others as their adventure goes on. Maggie confronts Tommaso why he has been lying to them after she discovers that he carried the tanks in his rucksack the entire time. She also inquires as to how he is familiar with the entire path inside the Croat’s den. Tommaso struggles to respond convincingly, and as others notice, they learn that he had made a deal with the Croat to direct his community’s members there.

After their operation, Maggie informs Amaia that she has the option of going to Hilltop rather than continuing to live with the traitor. Negan is still being held at gunpoint by Perlie, who intends to permanently detain the murderer. Negan claims to have killed the magistrate and his other victims in retaliation for what they did to his wife Annie, and he claims that the marshal would have done the same if he had been in the officer’s situation. Negan tries to flee alone when he realises that Perlie won’t liberate him since he doesn’t want to abandon anyone to a torturous death. He drags the marshal to a school bus and uses a first aid kit to tend to his wound.

The Croat informs the Dama that Negan eluded him and rushes to her. Even though she is upset by the information, she offers the Croat permission to locate Negan because it appears that he will be crucial to what they have been constructing. Maggie learns from Tommaso that the Croat gave him a boat to the mainland in exchange for guiding his group to the latter’s cave. In order to live with Amaia in safety, he betrayed his community. Tommaso and Amaia perish in the battle against the undead as Maggie, Ginny, Tommaso, and a small group of walkers are attacked.

The Walking Dead: Dead City Episode 5 Ending: Is Maggie Lying? Why Did the Croat Really Kidnap Hershel?

Following the passing of Tommaso and Amaia, Maggie and Ginny are the only remaining members of their group. The Hilltop leader explains to Maggie that she needs Ginny’s father figure to rescue Hershel, who has been abducted by the Croat in exchange for Hilltop’s grains, realising that Ginny is upset with Maggie for separating her from Negan. Ginny did look into the community’s water tank while she was there, thus she is aware that Maggie is lying about the Croatian taking her son for the community’s resources. When Ginny examined the same, she discovered that the tank was full of grain, which is impossible if the Croat actually stole it as Maggie, Negan, and everyone else claim.

In truth, the Croat did not kidnap Hershel in exchange for a lifetime supply of the grains that Maggie and her neighbours produced. The only thing the Croatian is after is Negan in exchange for returning Hershel to his mother. Maggie is afraid that if she tells Negan the whole truth, he won’t support her in using her kid as a scapegoat. As a result, she fabricates a story in which the Croat’s main objective is the grains on Hilltop rather than Negan. Maggie must have reasoned that Negan wouldn’t serve as the lamb on his own, but that he might risk his life to protect her son because it would be the least he could do after killing Glenn, who was her husband.

Since she first met Negan, Maggie has been betraying him by asking for assistance in locating Hershel. It is reasonable that she is giving her son’s life more importance than the life of her husband’s murderer, despite the fact that she is a person of particular ideals. Maggie lost Glenn as a result of Negan, and she probably doesn’t want to lose her son in the same way. She therefore sets out to protect Hershel even if it means killing Negan in exchange for her son’s life.

Will Negan and Ginny Reconnect?

Ginny must have recognised that Maggie is leading Negan to his doom ever moment she saw the grain store at Hilltop. She seemed to be risking her life to go to Manhattan alone for that reason. She is not afraid of the numerous walkers on the island since she is trying to rescue her father-figure’s life. She uses a flare gun at the conclusion of the episode to get Negan’s attention so she can tell him the truth about taking Hershel and Maggie hostage in order to prevent the former leader of the Saviours from killing himself.

Negan is anticipated to discover the light’s source as he can see it. Maggie, though, might prevent Negan and Ginny from getting back in touch, at least until she recovers Hershel from the Croat. If Ginny gets back together with her father figure, Negan might find out about Maggie’s fabrication and her plan to use him as the Croat’s lamb sacrifice. He might stop assisting Maggie in her search for Hershel and even try to harm her for betraying him. These factors may lead Maggie to desire to keep Ginny and Negan apart until she is reunited with Hershel. She might confine Ginny to a secure location while Negan and she search for Hershel.
