Tyler, the Creator was detained at SXSW in 2014; why? Since 1987, Austin, Texas has hosted the annual South by Southwest music and film festival. There is a lot to see and do at SXSW, but in 2014, Tyler, the Creator was arrested after giving a concert there.
Tyler Gregory Okonma, better known by his stage as Tyler, the Creator, is a rapper who first gained notoriety as a co-founder of the underground hip-hop group Odd Future. He has founded his own apparel brand, Golf Wang, and is now a well-known solo artist who has self-released a number of solo CDs. Additionally, he has contributed voice acting for Grand Theft Auto V and television programmes like Axe Cop. Tyler, who launched all those homophobic insults when he first started rapping, has transformed into one of hip hop’s most sincere artists, shattering traditional gender and sexual limits. His most recent album, Igor, landed at number one on the Billboard 200, and his great 2018 effort Flower Boy was nominated for a Grammy for the second time.

How come Tyler, the Creator was detained at SXSW? The rapper was arrested, according to TMZ, for instigating a brawl. He “encouraged behaviour presenting an immediate threat and injury to individuals,” according to the police. The rapper encouraged the large crowd gathered outside the venue to smash down the gates while he was performing, and they did it. “Push! Push! Push,” he practically chanted. This was the day after the cancellation of his earlier performance due to a drunk motorist who attempted to evade the police by crashing into a crowd outside the venue, resulting in four fatalities and numerous injuries. Tyler was given a $25,000 bond after being charged with a Class A Misdemeanor.
Spin arrived on the site, which was reported to be utter chaos. The facility had already reached capacity when the crowd was barred out. The situation worsened when the sound was shut off, causing the crowd to chant “Let him play!” and appear to be about to riot. The concert was permitted to continue despite the sound man giving Tyler the finger in order to avert another catastrophe.
It was clear that Tyler, the Creator was not to blame for the tragic incident that took place the previous evening. To almost incite a riot, though, was unquestionably bad taste in any situation, but particularly so in this one. It’s understandable that tensions were high because the vehicle accident was the worst tragedy to ever affect SXSW.
