‘What We Do in the Shadows’ Season 4: Where To Watch, Trailer Cast, Plot & Other Details

  • DCS

The current pop cultural environment may be saturated with vampires, but FX’s What We Do in the Shadows still manages to be entertaining. This American mockumentary series is based on Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement’s 2014 New Zealand mockumentary film, which in turn was based on their mockumentary short film from 2005. The series centres on a close-knit group of vampires named Nandor (Kayvan Novak), Laszlo (Matt Berry), and Nadja (Natasia Demetriou), who live together in Staten Island. Guillermo, Nandor’s human servant, and Colin Robinson, their energy vampire roommate, all play major roles in the programme (Mark Proksch).

Here is everything we currently know about What We Do in the Shadows Season 4 as the Emmy-nominated series is officially returning for another season.

When Will What We Do in the Shadows Season 4 Premiere?

Season 4 of What We Do in the Shadows will debut on FX on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at 10 p.m. EST with its first two episodes. The following day, they will be accessible for streaming on Hulu. The date of the season’s conclusion has not yet been revealed.

Is There a What We Do in the Shadows Season 4 Trailer?

On June 4, FX published a teaser trailer for Season 4, which featured the vampires having a good time and dancing to the Boney M. classic “Rasputin” while carrying Colin the infant.

How Many Episodes Are in What We Do in the Shadows Season 4?

What We Do in the Shadows Season 4’s number of episodes has not yet been made public. However, each of the previous three seasons had ten episodes that lasted less than thirty minutes apiece, thus Season 4 will probably feature ten episodes that are similarly short.

Who Is in the Cast of What We Do in the Shadows Season 4?

For What We Do in the Shadows Season 4, it is anticipated that Kayvan Novak, Matt Berry, Natasia Demetriou, Harvey Guillén, and Mark Proksch will all return in their respective roles. Also coming back are Kristen Schaal and Nadia’s doll.

Colin was reincarnated as a baby with a grown man’s head at the end of Season 3, and executive producer Paul Simms has already stated that Colin will remain this way in Season 4:

“He is a baby, I will admit. We won’t be dishonest and take advantage of them by saying things like, “Well, guess what? Overnight, I developed. As much as we adore children, they can also be energy vampires because they make a lot of noise and talk about a lot of dull things. Almost the entire fourth season is about him developing and sort of imagining this.”

In Season 4, Proksch and Simms also discussed the kind of parent Laszlo may be.

Proksch remarked, “Laszlo is such a blowhard and just a windbag and an imbecile.” That giving him custody of anything wholly defenceless is the last thing you would want to do.

Simms, on the other hand, provided a more thorough explanation of the possible parent ing style of Laszlo:

“Nevertheless, I believe Laszlo has become close to Colin despite having to make him laugh during what he believed to be his final hours on earth. Although Laszlo is due to travel to England, he remains home instead because he feels obligated to care for some creatures. He possibly also has scientific interests in the experiment comparing the effects of nature and nurture. Can he transform this Colin into something different from who he was before?”

It will not be simple to care for Baby Colin Robinson, that much is certain. He further claimed that “Ten minutes with a sobbing baby and he will be regretting placing his only helper into a coffin.” Sam Johnson, another executive producer.

Will There Be More Celebrity Cameos in What We Do in the Shadows Season 4?

Expect to see similar guest appearances in Season 4 of What We Do in the Shadows as the previous three seasons featured numerous high-profile guest appearances from actors like Mark Hamill, Dave Bautista, and Tilda Swinton, to name a few. Simms stated that there are “a couple unique ones that are on our wishlist that might show up in Season 4” at a press roundtable for New York Comic Con in 2021. Iggy Pop, William Shatner, Lisa Kudrow, Kristen Wiig, Catherine O’Hara, Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek, Amy Sedaris, and Sarah Michelle Gellar were among the actors that revealed their ideal cameos for the upcoming season. If any of these well-known celebs make an appearance in Season 4, only time will tell.

When Was What We Do in the Shadows Season 4 Filmed?

In September 2021, What We Do in the Shadows Season 4 production formally got under way. Harvey Guillén said on Instagram three months later that Season 4 filming was conclusively finished.

Proksch told Deadline that filming sequences as a baby “would be done separately on green screen and other effects,” just like with the Season 3 finale. Simms explained that the baby from Season 3’s finale was created using “a combination of prosthetics, creating bodies [that] puppeteers operate, and some actual and digital material added in,” thus the group would likely use a similar approach for Season 4.

What Is What We Do in the Shadows Season 4 About?

While Simms did state in an interview with Collider from October 2021 that it will address that startling cliffhanger conclusion, we don’t yet know much about the plot of What We Do in the Shadows Season 4:

“The most important thing, in my opinion, is that we won’t take advantage of anyone and that nothing will be undone with the flick of a finger when we return in Season 4. The events that took place at the conclusion of Season 3 are the focus of Season 4. When everything is said and done, it won’t be obvious that anything was a prank or a dream, as it was in Dallas. It won’t be as if he suddenly matured and became Colin once more. As he develops, a lot of it is about trying to determine what his fate is.”

Although Simms omitted geographic details regarding each character, we may presume that the primary cast will return to Staten Island at the start of the season.

Additionally, the executive producer revealed in a different interview that Season 4 will delve deeper into Guillermo’s ancestry:

“You’ll meet every member of Guillermo’s family in Season 4 Episode 4 in a way that stresses him out a lot. We’ll discover that even though his family members might not be aware of it, if he carries Van Helsing’s DNA, then so do they. But we haven’t even started filming that. Season 4 will also reveal how Guillermo is experiencing the impact of devoting the last ten years of his life to these vampires at the expense of his family and his obligations to them, as well as how he tries to make up for it.”

According to this quotation, Guillermo might have to decide between his vampire hunting family and his vampire overlords in Season 4.
