The TLC series “My 600-Lb. Life” follows patients of Dr. Younan Nowzaradan (commonly known as “Dr. Now”), a bariatric surgeon in Houston, Texas, as they work to meet the requirements for surgeries that can improve their quality of life. Numerous patients have caught the attention of viewers since the show’s debut, for better or worse. In a 2019 edition of the programme, Cillas Givens was featured as a patient and went on to become one of the program’s most inspiring success tales (via Newsweek). Later, he appeared in a segment of the spinoff show “My 600-Lb. Life: Where Are They Now?,” which was broadcast on TLC’s YouTube site.
Fans have probably been curious about Givens’ current condition after his experience on the reality TV series and what he looks like now that he has had a significant bariatric procedure. Givens’ weight loss from his top weight of 729 pounds down to 313 pounds at the time his episode aired was the most observed in any patient’s debut episode of “My 600-Lb. Life,” according to Starcasm. So how has he fared throughout the intervening years?
Givens had been utilising supplemental oxygen via a nasal cannula before the end of Givens’ episode of “My 600-Lb. Life” and the beginning of his episode of “My 600-Lb. Life: Where Are They Now?,” yet there was a noticeable difference between the two episodes (via YouTube). Givens appears to still not require oxygen support, which is a significant improvement from his situation when he first appeared on the show.
Givens looks to be smiling a lot when you look at his personal Facebook account, some of which are accessible to the public. He may be seen smiling for a selfie with part of his family in one snap (as pictured above). He’s posing with a dog in another image that’s been made public (via Facebook).
Cillas Givens is working in healthcare
According to The List, Cillas Givens had previously been employed as a supervisor at ContactUS Communications, but it appears that the “My 600-Lb. Life” alumna has significantly changed occupations since that time. According to his personal Facebook page, he is employed by Liberty Healthcare Corporation as a behavioural rehabilitation professional.
Givens’ daily duties may not be evident from his title, but a description from HAS Incorporated outlines some of the tasks that its behavioural habilitation specialists complete for patients who need them. For instance, according to the organization’s website, “Behavioral supports are individually created and positive, promote learning, allow choice and social integration, and include altering environments as needed” (via HAS Incorporated).
In other words, Givens seems to be thriving in his new position and moving past his time on “My 600-Lb. Life” to help others in his community.
