Disney+’s Willow’s Filming Location : Are The Locations Real Or CGI?

On November 30, Willow, the newest fantasy adventure film from Disney+, had its streaming debut. The series is a follow-up to the George Lucas-penned 1988 movie of the same name.

The programme recounts the exploits of six heroes as they embark on a perilous mission to save the planet. They have to battle their own inner demons along the road. Now that the magical series has concluded, many fans are curious about the locales that were used. Find out where the Willow movies were filmed by reading on.

Willow Filming Locations

Wales was the location of many of the show’s first season’s productions. In the South Wales town of Bridgend, the filing process started in June 2021 and continued until early 2022. Without further ado, let’s take a look at every location that was used to film Willow.

South Wales, Wales

Willow was primarily filmed in South Wales, namely at the Dragon Studios in Bridgend. The studios were used to erect the mediaeval village sets. The location is in Pencoed, Bridgend County Borough, and it has all the shooting-related amenities. It consists of a sizable backlot, five purpose-built studios, and a sizable office building.

The production crew established a base in Carmarthenshire in October 2021 in order to film several significant shots in Pendine Sands. Here, a scene showing a rider on a horse riding by the seashore was captured on camera.

Several locations in Merthyr Tydfil County Borough, including Morlais Castle in Pontsarn Close, Morlais Quarry at 4 Pontsticill Road, the village of Pontsticill, and the Pontsticill reservoir, were also used for filming by the cast and crew.

Additionally, Powys county in South Wales was used as a setting for Willow. The crew took use of the Brecon Beacons mountain range to get some spectacular images. The Mynydd Llangynidr Quarry, the community of Saundersfoot, and the town of Tenby in Pembrokeshire are further sites where the show has been filmed.

South Wales is home to a number of stunning landscapes that make it the perfect location for a fantasy show. The Brecon Beacons National Park, which includes Pen y Fan, the tallest British peak south of Cadair Idris in Snowdonia, is located in the territory.

North Wales, Wales

North Wales, a location in the country’s north, served as the backdrop for some scenes in Willow. In order to film certain crucial scenes, the cast and crew of the series were observed in the historically significant county of Gwynedd in North Wales. To help with the manufacturing, the crew also established a base at Dinorwic Quarry, halfway between Llanberis and Dinorwig.

Mountains, trails, and waterfalls can all be found in North Wales. The area includes the Clwydian Range, Dee Valley, and Snowdonia National Park. The main driver of economic growth in the region is tourism. Wales has additionally been used as a filming location for a number of other significant productions, including as The Crown, Doctor Who, and Sherlock, in addition to Willow.
