Fans of Yellowstone and 1883 are used to going back in time and revisiting origin tales, so they won’t mind that the new spin-off is shifting its location by nine years from its original idea. The planned Yellowstone-verse Paramount+ series, once known as 1932, now goes by the name 1923. The Dutton family experiences some difficult moments in the origin narrative as they work through one of America’s worst challenges. This December will see the start of the series.
The title change, according to Paramount+ and MTV Entertainment Studios, reflects several features that were incorporated into the primary story arcs during production. The two major historical occurrences that will be covered by the new series are the end of World War I (which occurred in 1918) and the beginning of Prohibition (which began in 1920). While these events undoubtedly had an impact on the plot, moving the setting closer to them will make those effects more noticeable in the storylines.
It’s not like 1923 wasn’t already a must-see movie. Two Hollywood A-listers were revealed to be joining the cast by Paramount+ last month: Academy Award nominee and living icon Harrison Ford and Academy Award winner Dame Helen Mirren (The Queen) (Indiana Jones, Star Wars). Although their roles have not yet been made public, it is safe to assume that they will play significant roles in the plot and that their talent will significantly improve the quality of the limited series.
