Will There Be A 23 Jump Street? Or It It Called 24 Jump Street Now?

Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum play Schmidt and Jenko, two cops hired into a programme where undercover officers infiltrate high schools, in “21 Jump Street,” a comic remake of the legendary TV series that propelled Johnny Depp to fame. Schmidt and Jenko, however, are abject failures at acting as undercover agents, in contrast to Depp’s TV character, who did it with competence and professionalism. It’s a longstanding joke that the enormous, fully grown Tatum is obviously too old to be a high school student. Soon, their school-based attempts to fit in result in crazy parties, automobile chases, and a dramatic confrontation at prom.

The buddy comedy was a major hit when it came out, making $201 million on a $42 million budget. It later inspired a sequel, “22 Jump Street,” which was this time set in a college setting. Schmidt and Jenko were playfully depicted in over two dozen fictitious “22 Jump Street” sequels, as well as a fake animated series and toy line, in the film’s end credits. However, seven years after the movie’s first release, there hasn’t been a true sequel. In the future, will there really be a “23 Jump Street”?

23 Jump Street is dead, but 24 Jump Street is in development

A “Men in Black” and “Jump Street” crossover movie had been actively in development for years, but it was abandoned because it would have been too challenging to put together. It was difficult for the new movie to maintain the lighthearted, parody-focused tone regarding sequels and reboots established in its predecessors, according to Hill, who said, “It’s almost become what we were poking fun of,” in a 2016 interview with the Toronto Sun.

While “23 Jump Street” won’t be produced for the time being, “24 Jump Street” has been given the go-ahead. In a July 2021 Hollywood Reporter interview, “Spider-Man: Into The Spiderverse” co-writer and co-director Rodney Rothman stated that he is attached to write and film a sequel, which is currently “24 Jump Street.”

He responded, “It’s taken us so long to put together we decided to skip over ’23 Jump Street’ and pick up the tale one movie later.” when asked why the title was changed. Phil Lord, who also co-directed “Jump Street,” and Rothman collaborated on “Spider-Verse,” so it sounds like a fantastic pairing of ability and film.

24 Jump Street will introduce new lead characters

Variety stated that a “Jump Street” spinoff that was “female-driven” was in development in April 2015. Then, in 2018, unnamed sources revealed to Collider that Tiffany Haddish will play an undercover high school teacher in this movie, which was now a sequel rather than a spinoff. The movie, which purportedly became “24 Jump Street,” would star Zendaya

alongside the aforementioned Haddish, it was disclosed in a February 2019 issue of the film production update journal Production Weekly, as reported by ComicBook.com and other publications, a year after that.

Last but not least, a November 2020 Deadline report confirming that “Bob’s Burgers” writers Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin would pen “Deadpool 3” also credited the pair with writing the screenplay for “Jump Street: Now For Her Pleasure,” a film that had never before received official mention. It is unclear whether this script is the same as “24 Jump Street” or whether it ever actually changed its name to “24 Jump Street” after dropping its original one.

It’s likely that “Jump Street: For Her Pleasure,” which sounds like the once-planned “female-driven” spinoff, has changed into a numbered sequel instead as director Rodney Rothman refers to this project as “24 Jump Street” as late as July 2021. If this is the case, if “24 Jump Street” is released as-is, film will likely include Haddish and Zendaya as co-leads with Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum.

23 Jump Street remains a future possibility

Although the film’s director, Rodney Rothman, claimed to have skipped “23 Jump Street” in favour of “24 Jump Street,” co-director of the earlier “Jump Street” movies Phil Lord might have other ideas. Regarding the choice to release “24 Jump Street” first, Lord stated in an interview with We Live Entertainment, “We’re reserving ’23 Jump Street,'” implying that not only do he and his close associate Christopher Miller have plans for numerous sequels, but that “23 Jump Street” may paradoxically end up turning into the fourth movie in the series.

Additionally, We Live Entertainment explained how the initial goal of “23 Jump Street” was to realise every notion for the sequel that was hinted at at the conclusion of “22 Jump Street.”

Therefore, if “23 Jump Street” does continue to be a possibility, it might stick with this idea, revisit the “Men in Black” crossover concept once it’s in the works, or even try something completely new that Lord and Miller haven’t yet revealed to the public but may want to keep a secret in case the “Jump Street” franchise sees a comeback.
