The movie offers a sobering and realistic depiction of how challenging life can become when seeing doctors and undergoing medical treatments become routine. The five youngsters who are the focus of the movie have attracted a lot of attention, and many people are curious as to where they are right now. Here is what we do know about it, though!
How Did Timothy Woods Die?
Tim “Tim” Woods, who had Hodgkin’s lymphoma when first introduced in the movie, was fifteen years old at the time. The teen’s illness first showed up as a chronic cough and a swollen neck, which were ignored by doctors until he was taken urgently to the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. We saw Tim living with his mother, brother, sister, and other family members in the movie, who were quite worried about his health.

How Did Alexandra Lougheed Die?
Alexandra “Alex” Lougheed, who was given a leukaemia diagnosis at age five, first appears in the programme when she is seven years old. She and her parents found the experience to be particularly trying given her young age, and they were both trying to figure out the best course of action. After Alex’s health initially began to improve, an effort is made to support her in integrating into society and increasing her social interactions. Yet as her summer of remission came to an end, she was once again subjected to painful chemotherapy treatments.
The physicians were particularly concerned about Alex’s right eye and high temperature, but a white blood cell transfusion seemed to make things better. She soon learns, though, that her leukaemia has returned. Alex’s parents decided against pursuing additional medical treatments because they were aware of how severely damaged their daughter’s immune system was. The young child was now living at home and receiving hospice care. Alex was unhappy about going to the hospital for another round of chemotherapy, but her father, Scott, insisted on taking her. The eight-ye ar-old died just twelve hours later. We hope that Alex’s parents are doing better now and cherish their memories of her. It must be difficult for them to lose their daughter.
How Did Justin Ashcraft Die?
Justin Ashcraft’s fight with cancer was protracted and challenging. We initially meet him in the film when he is nineteen years old, nine years after receiving a leukaemia diagnosis. As he had been receiving cancer treatments for more than ten years, the adolescent had attracted national notice, with many in awe of his tenacity in the face of the terminal illness and its rigorous therapies. As a chemotherapy port was implanted in Justin’s head as part of an experimental treatment, the procedure was interrupted when Justin had a stroke.
Justin’s cancer recurs three months after the stroke, and his health begins to decline. This causes the paralysis of his legs and the growth of brain lesions. Justin’s family was forced to make a difficult choice after his oxygen saturation levels dipped to hazardous levels. Justin’s family made the decision to discontinue the medical treatments and let him pass away peacefully in his sleep because they were aware of how painful the cancer treatments had been for him. We wish Justin’s family the best and really hope that they carry on living their lives with the same courage that everyone so greatly appreciated in the adolescent.
Where is Jennifer Moone Now?
Jennifer “Jen” Moone, a leukaemia survivor, experienced numerous highs and lows along her journey in the film. The six-year-old had to face numerous difficult chemotherapy treatments, but her mother, Beth Moone, remained by her side the entire time. In the film, it is revealed that Jen’s IQ had reportedly decreased by 15 points. Several medical professionals theorised that this might be due to the taxing regimen of chemotherapy and radiation therapy exposure. The young girl also talked about her aspirations to work in medicine, education, or the sports industry.
The Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center provided a report on the Moones in November 2022, highlighting that Jen is doing well in terms of her health. She and her husband Ryan reportedly have a happy marriage, and in December 2019, the couple welcomed their daughter Stella into the world. Although she is no longer listed on the faculty list of Mariemont Elementary School, Jen was an intervention specialist there at the time.
Where is Alex Fields Now?
We also have Alex “Al” Fields, who received a Non-Hodgkin lymphoma diagnosis just before making an appearance on television. The then eleven-year-old was initially thought to have asthma, but the cancer diagnosis significantly changed everything for him and his family. Al was proclaimed well after 15 months of difficult treatments and several family problems, and doctors were optimistic that his cancer would not recur. Regina, his mother, was still worried about his conduct at school.
Despite having many academic suspensions on his school record, Al said that he had allegedly gotten “wiser,” just as how his mother had apparently grown “stronger,” as a result of his struggle with illness. Despite the fact that Al doesn’t seem to have provided many facts about his life, we wish him and his loved ones well.
