The show “La Brea” on NBC is about time travel, and it starts with a sinkhole opening up in Los Angeles. With all the turns and twists in the story, each episode gets even stranger. At this point, it’s clear that the past and the future are more connected than people used to think. Especially in the second season, we learn that people from further in the future have moved to 10,000 BC and that what they do affects the lives of people in other times. In the second half of its second season, the show solves a mystery about a character who died at the beginning of the series but didn’t seem that important. Who is he, and how does his past fit into the story of “La Brea”? Let’s find out. SPOILERS AHEAD
Who was Aaron?
Aaron Castillo and two girls, Veronica and Lilly, fell down the LA sinkhole. He seemed to be a religious person who cared about the environment and didn’t want to hang out with other people. He didn’t let his daughters talk to other people. He was killed by a bear before more could be learned about him. The girls later turned out not to be his daughters. He had taken them both hostage and trained them to do whatever he said.
Eventually, he helps Veronica and Lilly come out of their shells, and they start to hang out with the rest of the group. This helps them get over the trauma of being taken away from their families when they were young and never seeing them again. So, in 10,000 BC, the only thing people knew about Aaron was that he was a bad guy who had killed two little girls.
Had Aaron Been to 10,000 BC Before?
In the first season, Aaron is usually brought up in relation to what he did to Veronica and Lilly (now Ella), which caused them a lot of pain. In the second season, however, new information about the world leads to the appearance of a picture that seems to tell a different story. This picture starts with the red flowers in t he shape of a star.
Gavin first saw the flowers in a dream in which he saw Eve die. Later, Izzy finds the tree inside Lazarus. James tells her that this kind of tree only grows in 10,000 BC. They don’t know much about it yet, but they are still looking into it. Later, Ella and Veronica find the same tree in a cave, which is where trees usually grow. They went there to find something that would help them make a ring for Ty to use to ask Paara to marry him.
Veronica and Ella know the tree right away. It was something that Aaron was crazy about. He told Ella over and over to draw the tree and its flowers. This makes Veronica feel scared, so she runs away. Later, she and Ella start to wonder how Aaron knew about these trees that only grew 10,000 years ago. When they find out that the Exiles are looking for the notebook Aaron had, Aaron’s story gets even stranger. Veronica knows it because she and Aaron buried a notebook together. Gavin finds out when they dig it up that it belongs to Dr. Moore and has his notes on how to improve the time machine.
With the new information from the last couple of episodes, it is clear that Aaron was much more involved in the time travel stuff than anyone else. Aaron told Veronica and Ella that the red-flowering tree used to grow in his old house. This could mean that Aaron grew up around the same time as Isaiah, aka Gavin. In the next episode, it’s possible that we’ll see his younger self, who most likely lives inside Lazarus.
We don’t know where Aaron went in the future, but he might have been working with or for people like James or Caroline. He must have known about Dr. Moore, since he had the notebook of a dead man. Veronica also notices that Aaron took her and Lilly to the exact same place on the day the sinkhole appeared, as if he already knew about the sinkhole. All of this shows that Aaron has been to 10,000 BC before and has something to do with sinkholes and traveling through time.
