Jimmy Kimmel and Molly McNearney worked on Jimmy Kimmel Live! for six years before they started dating outside of work.
As the only woman who wrote for the show, McNearney and Kimmel became friends even though they were both dating other people. When they were both single again, the host of a late-night show made a meal of McNearney’s favorite foods, and that’s when they decided to get together. They got engaged on safari in Africa and got married in Ojai, California, in 2013.

She is open about her son’s health challenges
McNearney is also very honest about the health problems of her son Billy. The mother of two talked about it on Anna Faris’ podcast Unqualified. She said, “Kids are so strong. He had open-heart surgery on Monday, and we were back home by Friday.”
When Billy had surgery and Kimmel went back to work, McNearney wasn’t ready for his emotional speech about their son.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, McNearney said, “So, there I was, breastfeeding Billy in my living room while my mom sat next to me and we watched.” “I cried all the way through it. I couldn’t believe how much courage it took to tell that story a week after it happened. That wasn’t necessary.”
She said, “Our family has great health care, so he didn’t have anything to gain by lying about it. He did it for the other people we met in that hospital. When he got home that night, I gave him a big hug and wouldn’t let go.”

In the first segment, McNearney gave away a set of golf clubs owned by Kimmel’s manager and a pair of running shoes that looked like the American flag.
When he began the segment, Kimmel said, “You know marriage isn’t easy.” “One of the main things that cause me and my wife to fight is about stuff. She doesn’t like mine. She likes hers, but she wants me to throw out everything I have. So much so that we’ve made that a recurring nightmare on the show.”
She and Kimmel have joint charity interests
The two have been known for helping others. In 2020, the couple said they would match up to $25,000 in donations to the St. Joseph’s Center in Los Angeles.
Kimmel wrote at the time on Instagram, “Let’s make sure every kid gets gifts this year.”
Kimmel also helps the Alex’s Lemonade Stand organization. In 2015, he talked to PEOPLE about why he helped the charity for cancer research. “I’ve had many relatives die of cancer,” he said, “but it’s more about the possibility of that happening and being a parent and seeing these people who decided that instead of being devastated by the loss of their daughter to cancer—which, of course, they were—they would do something to help others in memory of their daughter.”
