Tate’s arrest actually had little to do with pizza. According to reports from Romania, Tate, 36, and his brother are reportedly being questioned on suspicion of forming an organised crime group that used women in adult videos. The Daily Mirror reported that Tate was “under investigation by the Directorate for Investigating Organised Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT)” The purported kidnapping of two girls in Romania led to this arrest.
Tate and his brother had been the subject of suspicion before. When “police apparently located two girls who claimed they were being held against their will,” authorities detained the brothers in April 2022. Although they were both freed, police continued to keep a tight eye on the twins.
The Daily Mirror reports that according to Romanian authorities, Tate, his brother, and two other people “appear to have constructed an organised crime gang with the objective of recruiting, housing, and exploiting women by compelling them to produce pornographic content.” Although they “cannot share any facts at the time about claimed rumours that [the Tates] have been detained,” a spokeswoman for Tate and his brother told the Daily Mirror that they “have the utmost respect for the Romanian authorities and would always cooperate and help in any way they can.”
