One of the most prevalent reasons why people enjoy watching movies is that they allow them to see things that they would not ordinarily see in their everyday life. The point is that for the rest of us, there will never be much activity. We’ll never mount the Burj Khalifa (let alone take a picture on its roof! ), and there’s no room for a high-end automobile chase amid the gridlock we encounter every day. So, films! All of the action, stunts, and fight sequences that we can think of can be found in movies. In a nutshell, action movies are the pinnacle of escapism (along with fantasy films). If you enjoy action, you’ve come to the perfect place. Today, we’re going to talk about the best action movies on Hulu.
Movie fans can now see practically any movie from the comfort of their own homes, thanks to internet streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime. Amazon Prime separates out from the competition with its large selection of thriller films. So grab some popcorn and prepare to spend the next two hours on the edge of your seat. Here’s a list of great action movies available on Amazon Prime that we recommend to you and your friends.
Brawl in Cell Block 99 (2017)
Bradley Thomas previously had a promising boxing career, but his recent mistakes have been nothing short of disastrous. His relationship is in disarray. He is especially distraught when he learns that his wife is having an affair. He attempts to make things work, nevertheless, and continues to work as a drug mule. He is caught in the crossfire between the police and the folks for whom he was smuggling drugs not long after. When the conflict comes to an end, Bradley is apprehended and imprisoned, where even more turmoil brews within the confines of the prison.
Dolemite (1975)
You may be familiar with the moniker ‘Dolemite’ from the Netflix film ‘Dolemite Is My Name,’ which was released in 2019, but if you haven’t seen the genuine thing, you are missing out on a lot. ‘Dolemite,’ a blaxploitation film starring Rudy Ray Moore, follows the exploits of the titular character. Dolemite is a pimp who has been wrongfully accused and imprisoned by members of his rival gang. Dolemite’s gang members, on the other hand, will not allow their leader to be arrested and treated in this manner. As a result, they resolve to break him out of prison and then assault his rival gang members. The picture is very entertaining, and despite some sloppy direction, Moore’s delightful character more than makes up for it.
Without mentioning Jackie Chan, any list of action films would be incomplete. Jackie Chan is a brand in and of himself, as one of the most famous and well-liked actors in the world. While there are several films starring this iconic actor available on Amazon, ‘Fearless Hyena’ sticks out the most. The plot of this picture is relatively straightforward, and it might be said that it was a recurrent plotline in other Jackie Chan films for a long time. He portrays a man who studies kung-fu from his grandfather, who instructs him not to show off his abilities in public. The man gets into difficulties because he ignores his warnings, and his fighting style draws opponents. Jackie Chan pulls off incredible exploits with ease, and you’ll be left wondering how many bones he fractured in this one.
Fist of Fury (1972)
It’s impossible to imagine someone ever succeeding Bruce Lee. His action sequences were incredible, and he established early in his career that he possessed unrivaled abilities. In his second feature film, he plays Chen Zhen, a man who returns home to marry but is heartbroken when he learns of his mentor’s death. Japanese fighters taunt and insult him, as well as his deceased mentor, and challenge him to a fight to see how strong he is. The fight sequences that follow are spectacular, and you may need to slow them down due to Bruce Lee’s lightning speed.
Good Time (2017)
Connie and his younger brother pull off a bank robbery, but they are captured by the cops at the last minute. While Nick is detained, Connie manages to flee. Connie feels bad about getting his brother into trouble, so he attempts to figure out how to help him out. His desperation drives him deeper into the criminal underworld, and he struggles to maintain his sanity while trying to save his brother and himself. ‘Good Time,’ one of the year’s most underappreciated films, was another example of Robert Pattinson’s amazing acting abilities. This film needs to be seen by a larger audience.
Hancock (2008)
If you adore superhero movies but are bored of seeing their “holier than thou” images, “Hancock” may be a breath of new air for you. The film’s titular major character is a reckless superhero who isn’t afraid to use the most brutal methods to accomplish his goals, and he doesn’t care how much damage he causes to public property in the process. When Hancock meets Ray, a public relations professional, the latter tells him that the way he conducts himself in public gives him a negative impression, and that he needs to appear more nice and approachable. Their journey together becomes the film’s core theme. Furthermore, Hancock realizes that he has a connection with Ray’s wife, which is likely to transform his life forever. The film is amusing, features a terrific performance from Will Smith, and does a wonderful job of deconstructing hero tropes. However, it falls short due to weak writing and a proclivity towards cliches.
Hamburger Hill (1987)
If you enjoy war films, you must see ‘Hamburger Hill,’ one of the most insightful documentaries about the Vietnam War ever created. The story of ‘Hamburger Hill’ takes place over the course of ten days and depicts the story of an American infantry unit that is planning to take over a hill. Veteran soldiers and young people who were drafted into the army against their will make up the group. The film depicts the anguish and agony of troops who have been deployed to a foreign country and have no idea why they are fighting in the first place. One of the key themes of the movie is racial tensions among American soldiers. ‘Hamburger Hill,’ a violent, brutal, and disturbing picture that will leave you with many unanswered questions, is a must-see.
Hwayi: A Monster Boy (2013)
When a scheme goes astray, five crooks find themselves in possession of an infant they kidnapped. They raise the youngster in the isolation of their desolate farm, passing on the skills they’ve acquired through the years. After fourteen years, the youngster has grown into a perfect criminal who has yet to commit a crime. However, the youngster is forced to accompany the five crooks when the time comes. For the first time, he shoots a man there. Despite having spent his entire life preparing for this, he finds himself hesitant to begin and yet unable to stop once he has. Hwayi begins to rethink his status within the mafia family after committing the murder.
Mission: Impossible – Fallout (2018)
The nicest part of this classic film series is that we get to see arguably the world’s biggest movie star perform each and every stunt sequence by himself. Tom Cruise is a true hero who has transformed Ethan Hunt into a virtual extension of himself. ‘Mission: Impossible – Fallout’ is the sixth film in the ‘Mission Impossible’ franchise, and it features Hunt and his team of IMF operatives attempting to prevent a terrorist organization from simultaneously releasing nuclear weapons on three cities. Action fans will not want to miss this film, which is packed with amazing action sequences and Cruise’s compelling screen presence.
Patriot Games (1992)
Tom Clancy created the character of CIA analyst Jack Ryan, and John Krasinski is the latest in line to play him. Harrison Ford has played this character a few times before him. ‘Patriot Games’ takes place after the events of ‘The Hunt for Red October,’ a 1990 film. Jack Ryan has served his time in the CIA and is now enjoying his retirement in London in this flick. But Ryan’s life isn’t supposed to be easy. He observes an IRA terrorist act and manages to stop it, killing one of the perpetrators in the process. The case appears to be concluded when the other assailant, the brother of the person slain by Ryan, is apprehended. However, the man manages to flee and threatens to seek vengeance on Ryan.
Platoon (1986)
The Vietnam War is also the subject of Oliver Stone’s 1986 film ‘Platoon.’ Chris Taylor, a young recruit who has enlisted to fight in the Vietnam War, is the film’s principal character. Chris believes he will be able to make a significant difference on the battlefield, but he soon realizes that he is one of thousands of average troops, none of whom will be able to make a significant difference on their own. The film’s central plot is around an illegal death that occurs during one of their raids, and how the troops have differing perspectives on how to handle the problem. Because of Stone’s own experience in Vietnam, the film provides a fairly accurate depiction of how things were during the war. In 1987, it won Academy Awards for Best Picture, Best Director (Steve McQueen), Best Sound, and Best Film Editing.
Red Dawn (1984)
This 1984 action picture, directed by John Milius, follows a group of adolescents from a Colorado high school who are chased into the forest after their school is invaded by Soviet, Cuban, and Nicaraguan armed troops. Enemy forces are hell-bent on killing these teenagers and have even ventured into the jungle. While the assailants are armed to the teeth with cutting-edge weapons, these youths are armed to the teeth with only a few hunting rifles and pistols. The film follows them as they wage guerilla warfare against the attack as a team. The picture is pretty violent, but it has a gripping tale with plenty of exciting moments that audiences will enjoy.
Ronin (1998)
This 1998 picture, directed by John Frankenheimer, stars Robert De Niro as Sam, a former US intelligence operative who recalls some of his Cold War comrades to take part in a dangerous mission. Their goal is to reclaim a luggage from a gang of Japanese assassins. Though it appears to be a simple task, it is far from it. These Japanese mercenaries are extremely hazardous, and one of Sam’s group’s main tasks is to stay alive despite their attacks. Aside from being a gripping action thriller, the film also dives into the personalities of the gang that Sam forms. Their love, hatred, and friendship stories lend another layer to the film.
The Boondock Saints (1999)
If one’s convictions are strong enough, faith can be a powerful motivator. While criminals roam the streets of Boston unchecked, two brothers decide to take action. They are motivated by their Catholic faith and a sense of justice, and they become vigilantes who are dubbed “heroes” by the public. They sweep the streets of Boston, one by one, cleaning up the crime while getting their hands dirty. While they believe they are doing the world a service, FBI agent Paul Smecker disagrees. He pursues the brothers with tenacity, convinced that they, too, deserve to be prosecuted like any other criminal.
The Lost City of Z (2016)
Most of the areas seems to have been investigated by men during the turn of the twentieth century. Percy Fawcett, on the other hand, discovered an unexplored and unaccounted-for location deep in the Amazon. He launches an expedition in pursuit of a civilization he believes once existed, and possibly still exists, in the forests. He is mocked and rejected by other explorers, and despite the fact that other events occupy his time, he is unable to abandon the search. He returns to the jungle with his son and discovers some surprising discoveries, but he never returns to tell the story. This film is based on a genuine story, one that has yet to be concluded.
The Man from Nowhere (2010)
‘The Man from Nowhere’ is a Korean action thriller about a man’s journey to save a young girl. Tae-Sik is a pawnshop owner with little interactions. So-mi, a girl whose mother is an addict, is one of his buddies. The men kidnap both the murderer and So-mother mi’s after she steals cocaine from a deadly cartel. This irritates Tae-Sik, who decides to find out who kidnapped the mother and daughter. At first, the cartel members don’t think he’s a threat, but when they learn that he’s an ex-Army Intelligence officer, they realize he’s a far more dangerous man than they believed.
Thief (1981)
This 1981 action picture stars James Caan, who you may recognize from the film “The Godfather.” Caan plays Frank, a master jewel thief who is one of the greatest in the world at what he does. He now wants to leave his risky lifestyle behind and start a family with his partner. Frank, however, wants to pull down one more score before he can do so, so that he has enough money to live comfortably. This decision proves to be a big stumbling block, since the man he starts his last job for wants to work with him on a long-term basis and will go to any length to make that happen. This is a well-written thriller with some outstanding performances that will linger with you long after you’ve finished viewing it.
Total Recall (1990)
‘Total Recall,’ a 1990 science fiction action picture directed by Paul Verhoeven, is easily one of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s best films. Douglas, the film’s key character, has frequent nightmares in which he is a secret agent on a mission to Mars, but he is baffled as to why this is occurring to him. He decides to visit Rekall Inc., a company that can implant memories into your brain, in order to gain some clarification on the problem. This visit reveals to him that he was indeed such an agent for a long time before memory was implanted in him, causing him to forget about this period of his life. Douglas embarks on a quest to learn more about his background after getting insight. The writing in ‘Total Recall’ is unquestionably its strongest feature. The protagonist is written in such a way that the audience quickly empathizes with him, and the remainder of the story backs him up with enough twists and turns to lead to a fantastic conclusion.
