Monsters Inc theory: Turning Red Director Clarifies, “Abby Is Not An Older Boo”

  • DCS

When Turning Red debuted on Disney+ in February, it enthralled viewers with its early-2000s nostalgia.

Mei Lee, a 13-year-old girl, is pulled between her family’s obligations and the exciting turmoil of her youth in the coming-of-age Pixar film.

Her life quickly spirals out of control as a result of learning a family secret about the red panda’s power.

Domee Shi, the director of the movie, has responded to certain fan ideas when viewers pointed out that one of Mei Lee’s acquaintances looked familiar.

Many moviegoers hypothesised that Abby might be an older version of Boo from Monsters, Inc. since they were looking for Pixar Easter eggs in the family movie.

Social media users who shared their opinions drew attention to the similarities between the two Pixar characters’ hairstyles and attire. Both characters dress in pink and purple and have slick, dark fringes. While this is happening, some of the flowers on Abby’s clothing resemble those on Boo’s door.

Shi has clarified who Abby is once and for all after seeing the web rumours and responding to them.

“Oh, I noticed that. I noticed that TikTok “During his conversation with ComicBookMovie.com, the director laughed. I don’t want to ruin people’s fun conspiracy theories or rabbit hole investigations, but regrettably Abby is not an older Boo.

She acknowledged aesthetic similarities between the two characters, but said that there might still be a connection between them.

Shi stated: “You never know—they might be connected. I can see how the hair is similar. Additionally, I like the notion that Boo’s Korean heritage is being accepted. That’s great. I agree with that!”

It seems as though we were close to learning more about Boo, but it turns out the fans were mistaken after all. The identity of the cute toddler may never be known.

Currently streaming on Disney+ are the movies Turning Red and Monsters, Inc.
