A “chick flick” is a movie in which women play key roles and deal with issues that might or might not be gender-specific. These days, with the rise of internet streaming services, people prefer to watch films at home in comfortable chairs. It appears that Netflix has the majority of viewers, but Amazon Prime is not far behind. Therefore, you don’t have to go to the theatre if you want to watch a chick flick with a group of your female (or male) friends. Simply invite them over to your house, where you can enjoy a wonderful time binge-watching these wonderful, heartwarming films.

About Fate (2022)
The two main characters in “About Fate” are Thomas Mann’s Gryphon Reed and Emma Roberts’ Margot Hayes, who live in very different but similar-looking homes. He is a lawyer, and she works as a realtor. Before going to her sister’s wedding, she hopes to hear from her boyfriend, Kip, about a proposal. But after popping the question to his girlfriend, a social media influencer, he gets told he has to do it in front of the cameras again. Gryphon and Margot first cross paths when the latter arrives at Margot’s house inebriated. Kip declines to accompany her to the wedding, so Margot persuades Gryphon to do so instead. The 1975 Soviet television movie “The Irony of Fate” was remade in English as “About Fate,” with Margot playing Nadya Shevelyova and Gryphon playing Zhenya Lukashin. Book of Love (2022)
“Book of Love,” a romantic comedy based in England and Mexico, was directed by Analeine Cal y Mayor. Henry Copper (Sam Claflin), an archetypal, reserved, and struggling English author whose book has only sold in Mexico, is the central character of the story. Henry, taken aback and perplexed by what has happened, decides to travel to Mexico in order to meet his readers. He soon finds out that Maria (Verónica Echegui), a very gifted translator, is also partially to blame for the unexpected success of his book in that country. She completely rewrote the book, transforming it into a seductive romance in addition to translating it from English to Spanish. Henry is uncomfortable with the notion at first, but he gradually learns to appreciate how Maria improved the book. Henry is forced to collaborate with Maria since his publisher has demanded that he finish the next book in ten weeks. Their partnership inevitably leads to romance. The bride, Lillian (Maya Rudolph), is followed by a group of bridesmaids who are clueless about what to do for her. Each of them has her own plans for the bachelorette party, with single, jobless, and lovesick Annie (Kristen Wiig), the only bridesmaid who seems to be sane, at its core. The others are all stereotypes who add humour and gags along with their own spices to the bachelorette cauldron. Wendi McLendon-Covey, Ellie Kemper, Rose Byrne, and Melissa McCarthy are among the gifted cast members that elevate “Bridesmaids” above other chick flicks and make it a must-see. Brittany Runs a Marathon (2019)
The plot of “Brittany Runs a Marathon” centres on the title character, Brittany Forgler (Jillian Bell), an off-Broadway theatre greeter. She enjoys partying and frequently uses drugs with Gretchen, her flatmate. Brittany, however, makes the decision to drastically alter her lifestyle after learning that she is overweight. She tries to join a gym but finds that it is beyond her means. She then takes off running in an attempt to meet the little objectives she has set for herself. Brittany and Gretchen have a falling out as a result of their changing lives and their diminished shared experiences. Directed by Stanley Donen and written by Peter Stone and Marc Behm, this classic mystery rom-com drama stars the dapper Cary Grant and the elegant Audrey Hepburn in the lead roles. The men want the money that Regina’s recently deceased husband, their friend, stole from them. It soon becomes clear that Peter is not who he seems to be, as if these complications weren’t enough. Congrats My Ex! (2023)
This Thai-Indian film, which was directed by Prueksa Amaruji, centres on Risa (Ranee Campen), a wedding planner whose most recent task entails a lavish Indian wedding. The catch is that although the clients are paying a large sum of money, Risa’s ex-boyfriend Arun’s (Mahir Pandhi) wedding is taking place. The wedding photographer also happens to be Tim (Vachirawit Chivaaree), Risa’s ex, adding to the complexity of the situation. The unique quality of “Congrats My Ex!” is how she manages the conflicting emotions of working with one ex on another’s wedding while attempting to complete the largest assignment of her career with the help of her friends and business partners Jan (Passakorn Ponlaboon) and Aoffy (Thongchai Thongkanthom).An exhilarating experience. His Girl Friday (1940)
‘His Girl Friday,’ a comedy directed by Howard Hawks, is considered to be among the all-time greats and ranked 19th on The American Film Institute’s ‘100 Years… 100 Laughs’ list. The movie was selected in 1993 to be kept in the Library of Congress’s United States National Film Registry. The main character of the story is Rosalind Russell’s character, Hildegard “Hildy” Johnson, a prominent reporter for The Morning Post. She is scheduled to wed insurance man Bruce Baldwin, but Walter Burns, her ex-husband and editor (Cary Grant), won’t let her go and demands that she speak with Earl Williams, a bookkeeper who is about to be put to death for allegedly killing a police officer. I Want You Back (2022)
The plot of “I Want You Back” centres on Peter (Charlie Day) and Emma (Jenny Slate), who, at the beginning of the movie, have broken up with their respective romantic partners. Following their initial encounter, Peter and Emma quickly became friends and decided to support one another by ending their ex-partners’ current relationship. Emma therefore intends to court Peter’s ex-boyfriend Logan, while Peter makes friends with Emma’s former partner, Noah. Emma and Peter inevitably get closer as a result of this. Licorice Pizza (2021)
Despite its disastrous box office performance, Paul Thomas Anderson’s film was nominated for multiple awards at the 94th Academy Awards. The film, which is set in 1973 in the San Fernando Valley of California, follows the ups and downs of life from the perspectives of platonic partners Gary Valentine, a 15-year-old actor, and Alana Kane, a 25-year-old assistant to a photographer. We get a taste of 1970s Hollywood culture as the two attempt to navigate and “direct” their relationship and individual lives. Life Itself (2018)
With a multi-layered story and an ensemble cast, “Life Itself” spans two generations and several continents. Despite its shortcomings, the movie doesn’t merit the low review it has received. Before the story changes, the movie opens with a narrative narrated by Samuel L. Jackson about a man named Henry who is the main character. Next, we meet Will Dempsey (Oscar Isaac), the original protagonist, and the real narrator, Lorenza Izzo. After a bus strikes Will’s pregnant wife Abby (Olivia Wilde), she passes away, but not before the medical staff saves her daughter Dylan. Will commits suicide soon after, and Dylan is raised by her grandparents. Rodrigo González, in the meantime, is growing up in Spain, playing on the olive plantation where his father works, not realising that his destiny is tied to a girl who lives a thousand miles away. Love & Friendship (2016)
“Love & Friendship,” which is based on Jane Austen’s epistolary novel “Lady Susan,” narrates the tale of Lady Susan (Kate Beckinsale), a young widow. Following her forced expulsion from the Manwaring estate due to her covert liaison with the married Lord Manwaring, Lady Susan makes her way to Churchill, where her brother-in-law Charles and his family reside. Finding affluent husbands for herself and her daughter Frederica is Lady Susan’s aim. Once at Churchill, Lady Susan takes an interest in Charles’ brother-in-law, Reginald DeCourcy, via his spouse. My Fake Boyfriend (2022)
Rose Troche, a Canadian, directed this chick flick. It centres on Andrew (Keiynan Lonsdale), who, despite Nico’s breakup, is unable to move on from his toxic relationship. As he attempts to deal with it on his own, his friends Jake (Dylan Sprouse) and Kelly (Sarah Hyland) use social media to fabricate a perfect boyfriend for him named Cristiano. But when Andrew falls in love with a new guy, Rafi (Samer Salem), things start to get complicated. Meanwhile, Cristiano’s widespread online presence makes him too real to be eliminated, especially for Jake, who created the persona from scratch. My Fault (2023)
This Spanish romantic comedy film (Spanish: Culpa mía) is directed by Domingo González and centres on Noah, who meets her step-brother Nick at her mother’s new husband’s mansion and starts a romantic relationship. But as time goes on and things happen, the two begin to feel something for one another. Despite this, fate continues to intervene, bringing up issue after issue involving their friends and Noah’s boyfriend, Dan. You can watch the movie here to learn the outcome.
Priceless, a French romantic comedy (French: Hors de prix) directed by Pierre Salvadori, stars Audrey Tautou, Gad Elmaleh, Marie-Christine Adam, and Charlotte Vermeil. In the movie, Audrey Tatou plays a gold-digging woman who spends her days using rich men’s money as payment for their company. However, she discovers that Jean, who is already enamoured with her, can put her skills to good use when she misidentifies a barmaid as her next wealthy client—a mistake that is also made by another wealthy woman. In order to maintain their affluent lifestyle and increase their income together. However, as the two become closer, Audrey starts to feel the same way about Jean. Red, White & Royal Blue (2023)
Matthew Lopez is the director of this film, which is based on Casey McQuiston’s 2019 LGBT romance novel of the same name. This movie amply demonstrates the idea that a chick flick is more of an emotion than a specific type of movie, proving that it doesn’t always need to feature girls. The romantic relationship between Henry (Nicholas Galitzine), a Prince of British Royalty, and Alex (Taylor Zakhar Perez), the son of the American President, is featured in the film. However, no one is aware of their relationship given their respective statuses. How difficult is that going to be? However, the more crucial query is: How long can it remain a secret? Shotgun Wedding (2022)
The arrival of a group of pirates causes problems for Darcy (Jennifer Lopez) and Tom (Josh Duhamel), as they prepare for their ideal destination wedding on a private island in the Philippines. The pirates take the wedding party hostage and demand 45 million dollars from Darcy’s wealthy father. Eventually, it becomes clear that Darcy’s ex-fiance, Sean (Lenny Kravitz), is behind it all. Robert’s girlfriend Harriet appears to be abducted by Sean after his plans are made public, but it is later discovered that she is actually collaborating with him. Sitting in Bars with Cake (2023)
Based on Audrey Shulman’s 2016 novel of the same name, Trish Sie directed this film. The friendship between Jane (Yara Shahidi), a shy cake-baking expert, and Corinne (Odessa A’zion), an outgoing girl who aspires to be a successful musician, is highlighted. Sensing Jane’s potential, Corinne persuades her to try using her gift. They therefore decide to spend a year visiting various bars while eating Jane’s homemade cakes. Not only will this make her popular, but it will also introduce the two girls to new men, which will be an adventure in and of itself. All of that changes, though, when Corinne receives a life-altering diagnosis. The two girls come to the realisation that life is nothing like “Sitting in Bars with Cake” as they encounter various challenges and discover a number of life realities. Somebody I Used to Know (2023)
Ally (Alison Brie) runs into her ex-boyfriend Sean (Jay Ellis) from ten years ago while visiting her hometown. As they catch up and spend time together, memories return, and Ally learns that Sean is getting married. Furthermore, Cassidy (Kiersey Clemons), the girl, makes her think of herself as a child. Ally is experiencing mixed feelings as she spends more time with Sean, Cassidy, and their family. Something from Tiffany’s (2022)
This Daryl Wein-directed movie tells the story of Rachel (Zoey Deutch), who finds a ring by accident and believes it to be the one her boyfriend Gary (Ray Nicholson) was supposed to give her. Gary then proposes to Rachel. The ring actually belongs to Ethan (Kendrick Sampson), a different man who was caring for her boyfriend after he was struck by a car. Their possessions got mixed up in the first place because of this circumstance. The film leaves us wondering what will happen to Rachel and Ethan, who intended to pop the question to his girlfriend Vanessa (Shay Mitchell) with the ring, as the confusion results in more unanticipated events. Sylvie’s Love (2020)
“Sylvie’s Love,” directed by Eugene Ashe, features Tessa Thompson and Nnamdi Asomugha. It is set in 1960s New York and centres on Robert, a young saxophonist, and Sylvie, who meets Robert at her father’s record store. Even though their meeting does lead to a romantic relationship, Robert is forced to leave the country with his quartet in order to accept a sizable offer—but not before Sylvie, who has her own reasons for staying. Five years later, Sylvia and Robert reunite in New York, where Sylvia is now a well-known TV show producer’s assistant and married to a prosperous businessman while Robert is in the city on business. But just a quick look exchange reveals that the two are still deeply in love with one another. The sole snag? After five years, a lot has transpired. The Big Sick (2017)
The Big Sick centres on Pakistani-born stand-up comedian Kumail Nanjiani, who drives for Uber in order to make ends meet. The script was co-written by Gordon and Nanjiani, and their relationship served as the basis for the story. He meets Emily, a graduate student at the University of Chicago, and even though they both insist on keeping things informal and his family keeps pushing for him to wed a Pakistani woman, they end up becoming close. Emily breaks up with him when she finds out he frequently dates women his family picks for an arranged marriage. But Kumail quickly learns that Emily is in the hospital, and the medical staff eventually persuades him to put Emily in a coma. Emily’s parents, who are from Iowa, are upset with Kumail because they are aware of the nature of their daughter’s breakup. The Map of Tiny Perfect Things (2021)
The narrative of “The Map of Tiny Perfect Things” centres on Mark, a teenage boy. He’s been stuck in a time loop and has made multiple failed attempts to break free. Every loop, Mark goes to the community pool to save a girl from being pushed into the water by a beach ball. Nevertheless, he gets interrupted once by another girl. When a startled Mark follows the girl and eventually catches up with her, he learns that she goes by Margaret and that she is also trapped in a time loop. As they become closer despite being in a peculiar situation together, the two teenagers discover each other’s aspirations.
