The infamous killer doll has just just begun to play! During the Television Critics Association’s 2023 Winter Press Tour, Syfy and USA Network announced today that their popular series Chucky has been renewed for a third season, which will premiere in the fall of 2023.
A brief teaser trailer that includes various tweets requesting that the show receive a third season was released along with the news of the Season 3 comeback. These requirements have now been satisfied because “Chucky Always Comes Back” has been promised. The second season, which aired on USA and Syfy from October 5, 2022, to November 23, made a major impression and ranked among the top 10 dramas on television for the 18-49 demographic in 2022. The series, which is based on the Child’s Play film series and is run by the film series’ creator Don Mancini, follows the murderous exploits of the titular Chucky, a sentient doll that is infected with the spirit of serial killer Charles Lee Ray, played by Brad Dourif in a return to the horror genre.
Both the first and second seasons of Chucky, which made its premiere in October 2021, currently have a 91% critic approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. In her analysis of the first two episodes for Collider, Alyse Wax scored the second season an A+, calling it “simply a thrill” and “full of humor, love, lunacy, and lots of blood.” It would be reasonable to infer that Season 3 will follow this structure as both seasons lasted for a total of eight episodes, even if the number of episodes for this forthcoming season has not yet been determined.
Dourif is one of many actors who appear in Chucky, along with Zackary Arthur, Björgvin Arnarson, Alyvia Alyn Lind, and Jennifer Tilly. Along with Nick Antosca, Alex Hedlund, David Kirschner, Jeff Renfroe, and others, Mancini acts as the series’ creator, writer, director, and showrunner. Mancini gave a statement regarding the renewal along with the news of a third season, thanking the network and the audience for their support.
