Criminal Minds: Evolution – Which Actor Is Playing Rory Gilcrest?

The article that follows includes broad “Criminal Minds: Evolution” spoilers.

After a brief hiatus, Paramount+ has brought back the CBS crime drama “Criminal Minds,” which is now known as “Criminal Minds: Evolution.” Even though the show has a number of recurring characters, such as David Rossi played by Joe Mantegna and Emily Prentiss by Paget Brewster, it promises to present a newer, darker aspect of the criminal element (via TV Line). Elias Voit (Zach Gilford), a complicated serial killer who finds thrills in aiding other murderers in their crimes, poses the series’ first danger. Rory Gilcrest, a young man who targets a woman he becomes fixated with online, is one such murderer.

When he locates his victim — and her family — via the in-universe social media site “Soar,” Gilcrest is only a beginning serial killer. To make matters worse, Penelope Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness), a former BAU tech whiz, created Soar as a 100 percent secure website. Gilcrest appears to have been slain by his own victim in self-defense at first, but it quickly becomes clear that he actually committed suicide. Voit’s followers must commit suicide if they think they are about to be apprehended by the authorities, just like Robert Harris (Nick Bailey) does in Episode 2, “Sicarius.” Although Gilcrest’s time on “Criminal Minds: Evolution” is officially over, the actor who plays him will continue to advance as a Hollywood talent.

Modern Family’s Sebastian Schier plays Rory Gilcrest

Gilcrest is portrayed by actor Sebastian Schier in “Criminal Minds: Evolution.” He has made a number of high-profile cameos on various series, the most recent of which was in a deadly character. He appeared as a college student in the third episode of ABC’s popular workplace comedy “Abbott Elementary” at the beginning of the year. In the fourth episode of Craig Gilespie’s “Pam and Tommy,” which starred Sebastian Stan, Lily James, and Seth Rogen, he is also referred to as a “doofus.”

Earlier in his career, Schier appeared as a student on Season 2 of “The Mick,” a short-lived Fox comedy starring Kaitlin Olson (“It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”) about a troubled woman caring for her affluent sister’s children. In a 2014 episode of ABC’s “Modern Family,” he played one of his most notable roles. Schier played Xander, a buddy of Manny’s (Rico Rodriguez) and Luke’s (Nolan Gould) that Claire (Julie Bowen) didn’t trust. Schier is a martial artist, as seen by his IMDb reel.
